I once saw Phil Mickleson chip during a match (think it was the Ryder Cup) and Peter Alliss said "The greenkeeper won't be happy about that"!!
We always had a gentlemans agreement that chipping isn't allowed on greens :)
My mate and I play and we always putt on the green and we are quite often hoping that we just run off into the fringe, because chipping is stupidly easy compared to putting....
I blame the steam deck, it introduced way to many players who have no Idea or history with the game of golf.
Edit..the only time anyone chips on green agreed by all is when the game gives club other that putter…this way all play by the same rules…easy and no arguments
I understand that can't be done in game ..
Do you see the quotes, I didnt call anyone an Idiot, but I am sorely tempted now to do so!
But why should I? If you pay attention long enough, and think, you figure out some mathematical rules for putting that work pretty well. I can get MUCH closer with a putter than by chipping. From ANY distance (up to the 134 foot range of my putter).
Green speed differences and slopes make it less than an exact science, of course. But it's pretty controllable.
75 feet.
Green chippers are such a joke I now have an emote dedicated to their dedication and skill
