Chipping on green
Since when do we allow chipping on greens? Twice now on matchplay, opponent chipped within 20 feet.

Actually, it's not illegal to chip on the green.
I once saw Phil Mickleson chip during a match (think it was the Ryder Cup) and Peter Alliss said "The greenkeeper won't be happy about that"!!

We always had a gentlemans agreement that chipping isn't allowed on greens :)

In the REAL LIFE PGA TOUR - it is allowed to chip on the greens - BUT , that it is allowed due to an obstruction on the green. BUT , the Players don't do it out of Respect. So , why not allow it in the game ? So I guess that would be why it is allowed in the game. Simple Logic.

Yes, I'm well aware it's legal.

I've seen pro's do it when they're around 100 ft away or when there is some fringe infringing on the line of the putt.

Never seen it from around 25 feet on the middle of the green though.
I agree mate, it's extremely annoying.
My mate and I play and we always putt on the green and we are quite often hoping that we just run off into the fringe, because chipping is stupidly easy compared to putting....

" Too many idiots."

I blame the steam deck, it introduced way to many players who have no Idea or history with the game of golf.

blame the game not the player...when we play skins on discord we have an agreement that no chipping no matter the distance but online with randoms or whatever, they can do whatever the game allows...but to say you have to play these rules and not follow their rules if they like doing what the game allows is being a hypocrite. So who draws the line when to chip on green? how about horseshoe green...are you allowed to chip then etc...if following the rules of the game then they arent at fault...quit crying.

Edit..the only time anyone chips on green agreed by all is when the game gives club other that putter…this way all play by the same rules…easy and no arguments

Just began trying to compete in TGC tours. I discovered chipping on the green BEYOND 65 feet from the hole is permitted. With NO swing meter, this at times is easier to get the ball closer to the hole especially if the putt has ridiculous break. I don't know what the game will allow in Ranked games.

Simple solution: I don't chip on the green. I don't care what others do. If I lose one or two matches as a result, I'll laugh about it. Anyone who likes to chip on the green would also like to use the driver on the fairway (if it weren't for the distance penalty).

I've used a Pitching Wedge on greens before, when too lazy to go retrieve my Scottie. The ball comes off nicely if struck precisely on the edge of the blade.

I understand that can't be done in game ..

Enough name calling There is no rule against chipping on the green in the PGA rule book. since this is PGA Tour 2k23 i guess they use PGA rules.

Do you see the quotes, I didnt call anyone an Idiot, but I am sorely tempted now to do so!

It's allowed, even in real golf. In this game you don't have to worry about upsetting a greens keeper or leaving a divot, so there's absolutely no harm in going for the higher percentage shot if you think it'll improve your chances of winning. You can complain, call it stupid or a cop-out, but at the end of the day, you're only hurting yourself by leaving a game because of it or refusing to do it back.
Chess_Forever 26 NOV 2023 a las 3:07 a. m.
I never chip on the green. Ever.

But why should I? If you pay attention long enough, and think, you figure out some mathematical rules for putting that work pretty well. I can get MUCH closer with a putter than by chipping. From ANY distance (up to the 134 foot range of my putter).

Green speed differences and slopes make it less than an exact science, of course. But it's pretty controllable.

Chipping On Green
Why is it that you can chip on the green.....this game is played by PGA Rules, and they say NO chipping on the green.....this is a form of cheating......should not be allowed...
