EA = We have no idea yet. I'm interested in it because it has offline season mode. One strike against it already is that it's been confirmed there is no swing stick timing variable, just direction and power only. I have the game pre-loaded and can play in 4 hours, and will come back in 5 and give my opinion.
Besides, they can't find there way around people using the course editor to make sand-box versions of a real place? So many awesome courses had been "designed" in 2k21'/the golf club's editor- and now not allowed in 2k23. How can they be liable for this/other peoples creations? Absurd, and another draw.
I cannot see this getting any better in a few days on release day and although 2K23 does crash a lot for me I think it will be worth putting up with it and sticking with 2K23
I only played one hole but that was enough for me. I might use up my 10 hours but cannot see me sticking with it for very long
The EA Golf game to be blunt, doesn't belong on Steam. It's not a PC game.
Again, today, I am disappointed. This is now my favorite video game of all time. It has even replaced "Links" and "Tiger Woods" in my esteem -- and they were fine games indeed.
This has GOT to be the most under-rated game on Steam.
Yes, it's not very easy on the online matchmaking settings. Yes, it really does seem to help if one practices, and does the in-game lessons, and practices some more. And then some more.
I am playing A LOT online, using the 1 vs. 1 matchmaking function. I have played a fair amount by setting up a "private room" with a code, and using it to play against a friend, also.
In all that play, I've experienced a crash only once that I can remember, and that was weeks ago. And it was NOT on the "matchmaking" setting. That has worked PERFECTLY for me (although don't fail to notice that there seems to be a timer -- you can apparently lose a hole by playing too slowly -- and that seems fair. That might also be easy to MISINTERPRET if you don't notice the timer).
Based on my experience, with a decent desktop computer and average internet, using the "3 click swing" and playing on "pro" settings (which the matchmaking set up seems to insist upon), I would expect the most recent ratings, at least, to be "overwhelmingly positive." I have had nothing but an EXCELLENT experience.
I have steadily worked my way up from pitiful to being in the top 7,000 players worldwide. Believe me, when I first started to play, I was bad. The game didn't yet make sense to me.
But instead of telling myself that the game was "bad" I realized that I was the one who was not playing it well. And I practiced and practiced some more. There are things about this game that aren't immediately obvious. But I am convinced that the play is utterly rational and that the game works very well.
If your feet are higher than your ball, and you don't notice it, you might have a result you don't understand. If the green is far above or below where you're standing, and you don't adjust for it, you might have a result you don't understand. The game is a wonderful challenge, and it feels both fair and worthy.
I hope that those who enjoy this game a great deal, like I do, will give it a positive rating on Steam. I am BAFFLED by some of the negative reviews. Perhaps the game had problems early? Who knows. But I am not seeing ANY problems right now.
At this point, I hope I get a chance to nominate this game for "game of the year." The "three click method" and the other changes have turned this into a masterpiece.
No, I don't know the developers. This is my honest opinion, and as you can tell I am unusually frustrated that this game isn't getting the overwhelming respect and Love I think it deserves.
