Unlocking Receipts

Right I might just be dumb and they could have mentioned it

But basically what is every way you can unlock recipes in this game? As far as I know it can be through impressing the rare guests


I've only done like 4 work things so far but had parts where I couldn't do what the Rare guests asked for cause didn't have a receipt for what they wanted

1. Level up
2. Bond with rare guests so they give you new recipes when they level up
3. Buy them from shop.... Though these typically aren't that necessary

I'm guessing you are still in the very first area and don't have much unlocked yet. Don't worry too much about it. For rare guests you can add additional ingredients to a dish they may prefer. For Wriggle who likes Sweet, Meat, Raw, and Strange tags. You can make a Pork Bowl and add Honey, Egg, and Cicada Sloughs to make sure you hit all her favorite tags. Grilled Lamprey will turn into Dark Matter because it has the X Meat tag. If you add meat to it it's no good.

For Chen, Grilled Lamprey already hits 2 of her favorite tags. Then pay attention to what she wants when she's ordering. If she asks for Sweet you can add Honey while cooking the Grilled Lamprey. You can guess what sort of tag they want right now if you talk to them. Try to hit that if you can. If you don't have the specific tag such as Greasy for Chen, you'll just have to make do or try to stack her other favorite tags. Make a habit of checking the special guest's preferences as you are cooking. Early on this won't be a thing, but you should also be mindful of their budget if you want to quickly raise their bonds. Can't order more food if no money.

Eventually you'll have access to the Night Sparrow cooking sets that does let you bypass this sort of tag restrictions if you can meet everything else. Get enough Bizarre Rocks from doing the quests around Youkai Trail and eventually you'll be able to buy the set from Human Village.
