Why did I bought this game ? I wanted an FPS, that's where I went as a category, and that's where I found it. Now as a major fan of Rick and Morty, I was nicely surprised to find a game based around the universe, with the witty dialogues and the overall ambiance.
After a couple of hours into the game, I understood this was more Ratchet and Clank than COD. No problem, I like Ratchet and Clank, these are good fun games, no pretention. A bit bored with the combat I continue my journey.
After 5 hours, you realize the game is spent and you are on the downside : most gameplay is unlocked, combat are now repetitive, so are upgrades, storyline and quest design is at level 0 and no, breaking the 4th wall will not mitigate this.
The small 'Yes' :
- Dialogues can be fun. Can, and not are all the time.
- Afficionaods of Rick and Morty will appreciate both the theme and the fact that their icones are not being showcased in this game, so, yeah, well done not soiling the franchise.
The big 'No' :
- Infantilizing. I am free of nothing, not even look the other way during a dialogue or the possibility to skip them (F u). The world pretend to be open but it's a classic walled game. You have a àç_èè*! waypoint every 10 meters, the difficulty is set for a 6 years old child, while the dialogues certainly aren't. Where is the coherrence in that ? I felt insulted by the easyness of the gameplay and the puzzle solving, if you can call 'scan and click on the red object' a puzzle.
- Done in 10 hours. I started playing it Saturday morning and by Sunday evening there I was logging into Skyrim to find stupid things to do. This didn't even lasted me the weekend and will make an easy transition to my next point :
- Absolutely no replayability. And that's a mistake because for that you dont need extra content, just organize the current content in an engame mode. I know you tried, only, it sucks. I went back in the game (by then I was still going to give the thumbs up) but the last thing I remember was walking in games pestering and looking for way not enough encounters, and then my wife woke me up because I feel asleep on the keyboard. Could have been worst, such level of boredom can kill you, you know.
In conclusion : if I want witty dialogues based around Rick and Morty's universe, I re-watch a season of Rick and Morty. For free. 35 bucks is not worth it.
If you don't, no.
