Fatal Error Fix?
Hey all,

Just wondering if there is a way round the Fatal Error Crash yet. I have tried everything from Admin mode, Compatability mode, making the game run with Direct X 11, Turned off the ASUS Aura Shader, you name it! and the game still keeps crashing for me every 5-20 mins with the Fatal Error crash.

I got a decent build of a PC:
Windows 11 (Up to date)
RTX 4080 (All drivers up to date)
Intel I7 processor
6 cooling fans
32 GB RAM

Ran Furmark for 20 mins to test if it's the GPU playing up and it's working fine with no problem.

So is it just me? or is anyone else still effected by this problem?

Thanks

I had this issue when I went behind the kitchen counter in your home. I just avoided going around it ever in general. Weird, but that's what solved it for me.

Had a similar issue initially, turned out unreal uses some Windows media libraries... Ensure your version of Windows has Media features installed

I found the solution.
For some reason capping the frame rate down solved the problem for me.
It's weird because my pc should be able to handle it with no sweat.

I've been crashing every 20 minutes, too. I've got uncapped framerate, so I'll try capping it and see if that helps.

Same issue here, been capping FR to 120fps can try lower but WTF, this is lame. I tried to submit a request for support to squanchgames.com and their support form doesn't even work. Apparently they have a good sense of humor and a pathetic technical team. I've heard good things about this game so trying to play it but crash every 20 minutes (exactly) sucks.

EDIT:
I was able to submit the support message on the sq form there was a hard-to-see radio button select on reason for request with no prompting. Will update with any resolution.

Importantly: The game closes after 20 minutes even just sitting at the title screen! My system config is below but CPU, GPU, memory, SSD max temps are all very much within limits.

intel Core i7-12700KF + AIO cooler 2x120mm radiator
32GB 4GHz G Skill DDR4
3 fast M.2 SSD's 2TB 1TB 256GB
one of Gigabyte's RTX4090 3 fan monster
850W PSU
Corsair 4000D case
2x140mm intake and 1x120mm fan exhaust

Purchased the game through steam key from Humble Choice. Tried running from the executable instead of from steam with same results. No crash event in windows event viewer, no error popup game just closes.

I guess your fans are not RGB that's why.... More seriously... What is the error message you get, just fatal crash ? usually when an unreal game crashes you get a log in the game files or at least some type of error code.

Could be different things, a software interfering with the game, windows defender, or else if you use third party AV. could be a keyboard software, I remember helping someone on frostpunk where his razer keyboard software was crashing the game. Might be your right also check the temperatures, maybe it's some faulty ram or else... but if you get an error code that could help.

For me no error, no crash event just close application.

LOL I do have 2 RGB fans (and RGB GPU support ;D ) MB is MSI (Z170-DDR4) and tried enable and disable of RGB setting to no effect. ASUS Laptop (vivobook 16) runs game without stopping; it has a core i9 13980 and an RTX4070 but MUCH prefer running on the desktop hardware @4K 120fps. Both running win11 both running same Mouse with Logi+ software and same BT KB connected to same display. All drivers up to date on both machines.

Assuming @Nohiro your comment directed to me but I just read the full thread and perhaps I have different issue than OP since I don't get any "Fatal Error" . Temp log shows max temps well within safe range CPU<80C GPU<70C. I reduced the FPS cap to 60 and it ran 40 minutes instead of 20 which sounds like possible memory leak in the application. I didn't time it but I had it at the start screen for 15 minutes then it ran for another 25 approx.

I could not find any logs in the game install directory.

I think this was caused by the openXR.dll. I removed <install_dir>\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\OpenXR\win64\openxr_loader.dll and the issue seems to have gone away.

Running -dx11 version fix fatal error crash (I had this issue only trying to launch in UEVR, flat screen works fine on DX12 for me).

Worked for a bit, but still crashed. Thanks for getting me part way there.
