but yeah, I wish they included original versions as well.
I'm hoping modders will "fix" the game where needed.
Also, there is no way mods can turn sigma 2 into og ng2.
I do think it's a huge loss and it does ruin the game for me, since being able to create a rain of blood and limbs in original ng2 made the combat way more impactful and fun.
What possible reason would they have to lie about it?
That's not a reason. They could have just said they prefer to use the sigma version for whichever reason and the end result would be the same. Laziness is a Lazy argument.
If they had access to both source codes laziness wouldn't factor into the choice of version they use.
Lying doesn't make any sense because there's no benefit to it. Which is why it's just a conspiracy theory by salty fans.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is banned - and i do not just mean the usual ban that restricts public sale - but banned by criminal offense and thus can be confiscated on sight in Germany. Thus making the biggest sales country in Europe getting lost. So they decided to take the Sigma parts as they were at least rated 18.
Additionally the game is banned in China.
Koei obviously did not want to created different versions of the master collection nor did they want to have bigger markets going dead.
So you can now start a big discussion how stupid this ban is and whatevernot - it won't change a thing. So this will be what you get for now unless there will be non worldwide editions coming. I could not care less as i have not played any console versions. So to me it does not matter much. To all that know the uncut version with dismemberment etc. this is probably a pass. But hey you can just get out your XBOX or whatever and play it on there again - or not?
Nice theory, but no one has given a shit about Germany's overly sensitive censorship (nazi guilt) laws and Razors Edge is still gloriously violent:
https://youtu.be/PCon4C7Rkd4?t=445
So that's hardly the reason why we are getting sigma versions.
Now obviously they had to make some changes due to the console it was being made for not to mention the strict laws they had to adhere by that oh so happens to be very similar in Germany as well as Aussieland. GORE is the actual issue here. The last 30 years of Japan has experienced a lot of unnecessary death, most of them being mass stabbings which has led to the CERO rating even existing and being the way it is today.
So you have 3 options that still hold up today:
- Make one global game that fits the bill for most. Which is the most cost effective one.
- Make 2 versions where one is the original one targeting the home audience. While the second version is the "modified" version. This one is mostly targeting the western audience where lack of knowledge of said culture and country is everyday life. So your onigiri becomes a jelly donut because reasons. Or your onigiri becomes a hamburger (Alex Kidd for anyone that remembers) because reasons.
- The third and last version is the one that throws out the baby with the bathwater and caters to lowest common denominator which happens to be either China ($$$) or the US wokists that will just reeeeee on social media about you aren't being diverse enough as can be seen with A LOT of games (anime and manga as well) coming from Japan that are quite "different" than their source material.
What's worse these days thanks to GaaS is that you may have Option 1 turn into Option 3 as can be seen with RB: Siege.
As for why Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1-2 only being in this collection, it's quite simple; the legacy of Tomonobu Itagaki (which really doesn't have to do with anything really), the fact that no one bothered to store source code as late as 2005 for most games coming from Japan and other countries as well. I mean hah! Imagine if they had the foresight about remakes and remasters being a thing 10-20 years later!
Since everything is mostly split by several people in a group or studio, once these members go their own ways you don't have anyone to keep the relative material intact and the publisher or higher ups sure ain't gonna bother that's for sure. So you end with issues like these where the last known good version is the one for the PS Vita. You also end up with disasters like trying to port games that was made for PPC. There's a reason why almost all games made for PPC run like ♥♥♥♥. Which is why the transition to ARM or x86 made things so much easier.
At least KT/Gust had the advantage of having worked on the Vita which was ARM so we got Atelier games ported over to PC as well as on newer consoles. You sadly aren't gonna get anything else than an enhanced Vita port and that's a given if you read the above. Be happy we even got anything at all, or you can reee some more and go back to your emulated versions and save on that precious salt.
And let me give you some tips; if you live in a country prone to arson, earthquakes, hurricanes or even tsunamis, DO bother saving everything and anything locally where it will be forgotten (like how it is in the US when studios go bankrupt) and NOT via the cloud that WAS commonplace already in 1985 on servers that were immune to the above mentioned.
Weren't you one of the conspiracy theorists whom claim that NT is lying about losing their source code without any actual evidence to back it?
