Guillotine Throw does not work

I have this issue consistently in all 3 Ninja Gaiden games. Jumping towards an enemy and pressing X+A will only guillotine throw maybe 40-50% of the time. The majority of cases ryu just does a jumping attack instead of GT, there's absolutely no consistency.

I have a similar problem. I think it's because the left thumbstick on my controller is drifting in the up and down direction, so I'm trying to fix it, maybe have to get a new controller.

Try X+A to jump, then X+A again in the air. I've found that works consistently.
