Is The Quarry a better game than The Dark Pictures Anthology? Or not?

The Quarry or The Dark Pictures Anthology..
I am new to these games.
Where do I start?

In my opinion they are all somewhat similar as games (interactive horror movies) with the main difference in the story/setting they tell or are set.

Personally I'd recommend the Dark Pictures instead as it has a much better polish and you don't have to go out of your way to install mods or third party programs to have the game playable by removing the way too intrusive horizontal bars and the ridiculous motion blur as you can see in action here.

Removing the horizontal bars (through a 3rd party program) will show you things you're not supposed to see and will be very noticeable though, like missing animations or models while in cutscenes because well, they were going to be hidden behind the thick bars.
The game feels rushed in some ways where you can see background characters just standing still where they should be caring about something but are just in a frozen stance, there are inconsistencies that I have found where the choice I made was not the one the one acted upon but an alternative solution happened or something arbitrary was changed which I wasn't even aware of unless I checked the clues section. Some things that are maybe nit picking but some will become obvious and have frustrated me.

If you had played the Dark Picture games and were on the fence about this one, sure I'd recommend this one as "more of the same" at a decent discount but if you're jumping into these kind of interactive horror story games, I'd recommend the Dark Pictures first. There are (or were) demos for all of these games so you can try for yourself and make up your mind.

I followed your advice and got the bundle.
However I did not get 3 of the items in the bundle.
No keys left.
I am disappointed, since they gave me no warning about this through my purchase process.
I do not think I will use Humble again for purchasing games.
I do not know when my remaining games in the bundle will arrive.

Played almost every dark pictures anthology game and I would say that this one is the most fun. Got the quarry for 3.5€ thanks to the bundle on sale. The motion blur is awful however it is really simple to remove it, just download a pak file from nexusmods and put it in your game folder.

Until Dawn > The Quarry > The rest of the Games

I'd rank The Quarry somewhat low compared to the other games. Until Dawn is still the GOAT even a decade later and a lot of times The Quarry felt like a weaker imitation of it, whereas the Dark Anthology games all feel very unique and original in their own ways. Also, I really disliked a lot of the characters in The Quarry and found most of them unlikeable and obnoxious in a way that wasn't the case with the other games (except when a character was intentionally unlikeable like Emily in UD). Couple that with The Quarry being completely unscary and very predictable and I wasn't a big fan of it. The Anthology games have better characters, better settings/atmosphere, and most importantly are genuinely scary/creepy (especially Little Hope) unlike The Quarry.

I'd recommend firstly Until Dawn, which is the best Supermassive game by far, and then the Anthology. I would only recommend The Quarry if you're a big fan of the Supermassive games and want more-of-the-same-but-not-quite-as-good.

I’d rank Until Dawn and The Quarry as equals. Until Dawn is creepy and has constant thrills. The Quarry focuses more on the relationships of the characters. The creeps are kinda in the background around their relationships. I fell in love with the characters on both Until Dawn and The Quarry more than The Dare Pictures Anthology. But those games are pretty solid. Some acting is just bad though and tough to look past it sometimes.

idk, never played it. Liked it far better than the chore of Walking Dead, but a decade apart, what more should I expect? Haven't played too many digital movies. Probably better than Telltale's Batman too, and up there with Mass Effect 2 with far less gameplay.
