Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Wait..One life, one try?
So, no way to heal or checkpoints?
Just play the same level again and again memorizing it as you go until it ends?

Yeah, I'm out.

This is literally how it was in Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark: you fail a mission or get killed? You have to restart.

Thankfully the levels were never too long and the entire point of most old FPS is to remember the enemy placement.
I see! Thank you for the info.
Best of luck to the devs.

Sorry but have you played Goldeneye or Perfect Dark previously?
No, I haven't but I know the games. I understand it's supposed to mimic those games but it's not my cup of tea.

I don't have the patience for the old days mechanics anymore.
I agree, its lousy not to have checkpoints. goldeneye and perfect dark didn't have any due to both limitations and that checkpoints weren't a thing in video games back then. they didn't have health pick ups either but did have body armor you could get which would help a bit.

honestly this game should have checkpoints and health pick ups, its stupid not to

Wrong: Turok came out a bit before Goldeneye and had a checkpoint system (which is similar to a save one) and video games had checkpoints before the N64 (even Doom and Quake had quicksave).

This was clearly an intended game design choice (also because you can fail a mission there was no need to be able to do checkpoints).

Which is more realistic than "just wait a bit while in cover as life goes back like magic" that too many FPS are doing sadly.

This game is inspired by Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, not Doom nor Call of Duty.
can you imagine goldeneye or perfect dark with quicksaves or checkpoints? how miserable would that be. completely neuters the challenge of higher difficulty

The only time I had struggles is the Control Mission in 00 Agents because of the respawning guards but this is why the game clearly tells you to do objectives in a specific order so things can get easier (like destroying the computer mainframes before calling Natalya to hack the system).

In Perfect Dark there's also the Crash Site mission where you have to make sure the President doesn't get killed (which is why I failed the mission when I was almost done with it) but thankfully most missions give you a proper order for them.
Hard to believe but back in the day, games used to actually be challenging. Sometimes there were no checkpoints, autosaves, manual saves, waypoints, x-ray vision etc.

Body armor? I searched every corner on level 1 wasn't able to find it. Where are these armor pickups? I'm also finding Medium difficulty a bit too much
I think quicksaves and checkpoints have a place. whether the game is designed around them or if people want to go and liberally call them "quality of life" features and tack them onto things like goldeneye. when its the latter that stuff needs to be some kind of toggle and i guess in the case of quicksaves just use your own self control to not save scum, it almost becomes impossible though

When it's a simple FPS like Doom there's no issues quicksaving before a tricky moment. When it's an objective based FPS you can basically screw up your current save if you've failed one.

Perfect Dark had an X-Ray scanner but for some missions only.

I don't recall modern games having built-in x-ray vision though.

People get more patient as they get older. So clearly you never had the patience in the first place.

Even then Goldeneye and Perfect Dark never really required any patience...

Unless you want to unlock every cheats.
Just play the level again and try to improve. The levels are short enough to where no checkpoint is needed. It's intentional.
