Doesn't start on Linux
Hello, the game does not start on Steam. The app image starts from the folder of the game without any problems. My distribution is Manjaro Linux.

Maybe Steam can't do anything with the app image.

AppImageLauncher is a novel and unique solution of integrating with the system. It intercepts all attempts to open an AppImage to provide its integration features.
manjaro plasma, same issue

removed appimagelauncher.
at first all my app images stopped working, while supertux still crashes.
after reboot all appimages got back to work and supertux launches as well.

thank you, @Xpander[Linux]
For anyone else who's got such problems
This game is in every distros repo
For Manjaro you could also just install it by typing

sudo pacman -S supertux
into the terminal
Not the steam version but basically the same game

AppImageLauncher is very useful in my case. I don't want delete it. I think Retroarch had the same problems and they moved to steam runtime.

It could be useful, but it seems it doesn't use steam runtime, or forces its own runtime or whatever, so if you really need this, report the bug to them, so they can fix it on their side:

Wanted to add that in order to run appimages on Arch you need to install FUSE2, which is not installed by default. Maybe you had it installed as a dependency for Heroic. Not sure how to run it through Steam on Manjaro without removing an AppImageLauncher tho.

I'm not really familiar with Manjaro and it's impractical to use forums to help debugging - Can you join the Discord server[discord.gg] so I can help you debug? I'll post the fix here if we find one.

Doesn't start on Steam Flatpak here either. OS is Solus Linux. I wonder if this could be solved.

I've just been running it on Fedora Silverblue via Flatpak and Proton.

Come to think, I'm starting to run more and more Linux-native games via Proton these days. It's just easier to maintain and support one version of a game rather than several. That goes for Flatpak as well, I'm finding.
Here's the problem.
From what i know, the game on steam gets distributed as an appimage.
Yet because you use steam as a flatpak, this doesn't work. There is, at least as of now, no way to run appimages inside a flatpak. Maybe you could try opening the game directory and then starting the game directly, so without the play button on steam itself.

To launch the appimage through Steam the only thing you need to have is fuse2 package. If you launch it directly, you'll need to choose whether to use cloud save or local save when you launch it through Steam again.

Maybe the developers should be informed of this. A regular user just notices that the game won't start and that is it. AppImage seems problematic on Ubuntu by default too, or at least used to. No OOTB support.

Why do appimages cause issues on Ubuntu? Their main feature is to just download, mark as executable, and then run. It's just that steam already does the first 2 steps.

And tbh, all Ubuntu users could do is simply open a terminal and run sudo apt install supertux.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's also available as a snap.

Yes, they can install it from the Ubuntu Software but many new comers just know Steam in means of gaming. It would be important to get it work here without any hassle.

The reason for AppImages to not work OOTB on Ubuntu relates to libfuse2 (or FUSE library), which is not (or used no be) present by default. How could a new user know say, about this library.
There is a snap for SuperTux too https://snapcraft.io/supertux
