Hello!

This week, we finally released our demo for the first time.
Many of you took the time to dive into the seas of Tethys.
Almost two thousand players !

Seeing all of you diving and experiencing our world for the first time has been incredible, and we can't wait for our game to grow alongside this amazing community.

We've already released a couple hotfixes, but we wanted to we're not done yet !

We hear your feedback, and are absolutely aware of all the hard work that needs to be done. Whether that's unit pathing, UI, or content variety... we're hard at work on making sure we address as much as possible, as fast as the two of us can!

On that note - we have a fun one for you today!
We're naming this "the tentacle slap" update, as we're adding a fun change, now allowing tentacles to interact more with their environment, including...Mines!
"Squishy matter" will also now interact with a variety of creatures and enemies.

Our goal with Tides of Tethys, is that the world should feel like a sandbox, with systems intertwined to create emergent gameplay and stories.
We're hoping that these small change will make the demo a little bit more dynamic :)

Here's all the changes and fixes made in the last few days :

Big changes and fixes :
-Tentacles and bounce pads can now interact with mines and play volleyball with them

-Global navigation fix on Knights, to allow for better pathing and avoid slowing down against walls. Definitely not a "full" fix on all our pathing issues, but this hopefully should help a decent amount.

Balance/ bug fix changes:

-Nerfed resource cost for "Great One" event
-Rebalance on "Hungry Creature" event, to more often give the crab mount
-Tweaked artifact max distance, to avoid having to go all the way across the map in some cases at depth 2
-Renamed "invert camera x/y axis" to "invert camera horizontal/vertical rotations"
-Added camera speed and camera speed shift boost settings, in control settings.
-Formatting tweaks in "New Expedition" menu, to avoid title clipping for 16x9 formats, as well as house buttons scale changes.
-Formatting "Resource ward" title to not get clipped by the resource panel for 16x9 formats
-Fix for Bike interaction distance (Knights would sometimes get too far from it)
-Scaled up "defender" gear grab, and small crabs from the "Lost Container" event
-Made skin reward events more obvious and disappear after you've gotten the reward
-Added some more visuals for "Lost Container" event, as well as made it disappear once you got the reward.
-Tweaked "Large organics" so they're not blocking paths as much
-Moved "Lost Soul" icon up to make way for better visibility
-Rework on "Great One" event to hopefully avoid freeze, as well as adding more consequences to ignoring it (Beware! :))
-Fix for tentacle rotation to be more aligned with where their target is
-Tweak for skin rewards to show visual at the end to better know you're done with it, and can also now trigger on cinematic skip.
-Lowered maximum fish particle spawn count, which in some cases was causing perf drop.
-Reworked gear equip system, to avoid bugs where in rare cases cooldowns would be miss read and shared between gear. Also accounts for multiple other issues, including some cases where having the right gear for an interaction, but as a non-first slot item, would not count for the interaction.
-Multiple nav collision fixes around all region one tiles
-Fix for reward spawns from "Great One" sometimes not spawning correctly
-Fix for plankton color - was not the intended value, which made it not readable when current direction changed.
-Fix for some text being gendered when it should be neutral.
-Fix for breakable rocks not being able to be interacted with
-Changed organization name for the knights, now called "The Order" of knights.
-Added second expedition tutorial to better explain that 2nd expedition is "Real" compared to tutorial
-Fix for nest not being attackable
-fix for squishy matter collision, making it so Knights that'd land back on it would land on a flat collision they couldn't walk off of.
-Fix for unit attack damage not showing colors when non-default value
-Added a safety net so harmful creatures can't spawn right next to the core at the very start
-Added new tutorial for the first time a Knight has low oxygen to better teach about tethers
-Fix so when a unit is given an order to go do something that requires specific gear, if they don't have that gear, stay idle instead of still going there
-Some minor UI recoloring here and there (resource numbers, task icons etc) to not be too "neon"
-Changed spawning method when spawning things like knights for "Lost Soul" to avoid getting stuck
-Fix for delay at the end of the scoreboard that was not accounting for game speed, and would accidentaly last for what felt like forever by accident in some cases, looking like a freeze.

DLSS is not working

I cant get dlss to activate. I only can lower the resolution to 25% tog et a verry limited performance gain. ps is in the 30ties on a gtx 1080 ti with amd ryzen 7800x3d. And feels really sluggis

Demo Announcement, and details about the game

Hi!

The year is quickly coming to an end, and I wanted to take a minute to go more in depth about what you can expect from Tides of Tethys.
So on that note, here's a lengthy post!

-The Kingdom, prospering eons ago before the wars

First and foremost, an announcement - Even though we were initially aiming for Q4, I made the decision to move the game to 2025. This is so the two of us can spend time on polish and fixing bugs, bringing important key features to the game before our first early access, as well as building more wishlists.
We're currently aiming to take part in Steam Fest on February 24th, so if you want to try the game, that'll be your first chance to do so, and play the Demo. Mark your calendars!

With that out of the way, what's the game about?
At the core, Tides of Tethys is a roguelite simulation game, with elements of RTS and city building.

You're an expedition overseer, leading Knights to retrieve technologies and resources, wasted from past generations waging wars against their own kind for centuries, in order to save yourself from extinction, by rebuilding the Kingdom.

Let's unpack a few things here. What do we mean by "roguelite"?.
The game is based around expeditions, that are layered with a variety of randomization.
Randomly generated tiles, Knights, enemies, local and global events, Artifacts, weather, as well as region-based thematics are things you can expect, making sure that no two expeditions are ever the same.

And of course, in true roguelite fashion, you do still get to unlock stuff and progress over time. Even though you might lose an expedition, you'll still have new tools to help you out every time you either succeed, or meet your demise.

Our randomization systems at play, ensuring no two expeditions are the same.

Which brings us to rebuilding your kingdom!
The main goal of expeditions is to retrieve ARTIFACTS. Artifacts are lost technologies, that you can bring back to your kingdom to rebuild, and unlock new technology. They're basically your main currency, as a player.
You might want to unlock the Hangars to get access to vehicles, or maybe you'll want to unlock Turbines, in order to generate power when you're too deep for the sun to reach.
Or maybe you'll want to unlock new rituals to give you buffs during your expedition.

Speaking of Artifacts, these grow more challenging over time.
What'll start as harmless artifacts that you just need to find, will slowly turn into globally affecting challenges, like the EMP generator, constantly putting power stress on your outposts, or the corrupted black boxes, making your knights see horrors of the past.
Artifacts will also change based on which region and how deep you are.

Whether you have a lot of things unlocked or you're just starting, you'll also be able to find Relics while you explore.
Think of Relics as loot boxes, that reward your Knights with tools to survive expeditions.
With Knights being randomly generated, and having their own sets of backstories, stats and passives, Relics allow you to customize Knights so they can fit within specific roles depending on your needs.
For instance, you might find an upgraded oxygen tank and lenses, which, paired with one of your knights with inherent fast walk speed, turns them into a great dedicated explorer.

Expeditions are all based around 5 depths- starting in the shallower parts of a region, leading to the culmination of what that region has to offer at depth 5. Each depth, you can choose when to extract.
Too difficult to complete the depth you're at? Extract back to your kingdom, at the cost of losing 50% of your spoils. Unlock a few goodies, and try again!
Managed to reach the Artifact? Time to call the mothership, and decide which of your buildings and Knights to bring to the next depth.
Fully finished an expedition? Time to up the ante, and explore the next region.

Our goal with the game, is to give you tools to play the way you want to play.
Whether that focusing on your outpost and slowly expanding, not relying on luck, or if you prefer to micro your Knights to search for oxygen geysers and quickly explore without needing to build as many tethers, is up to you.
Or maybe, you feel like you're getting killed by monsters too often, in which case you might want to play as House Dayl, a House focused on combat proficiencies and slow expansion.

If you're like me, you also might love skins.
As I just mentioned, you can play as different Houses, which are gated behind specific challenges.
On top of having a distinct playstyle, they each come with different colors for their buildings.
And of course, you also might want to visit the Armorer to unlock helmets, materials or even just spotlight colors to customize your Knights.

The game is also built with streaming in mind!
If you love streaming, you'll be able to connect your twitch chat with in-game events, letting your viewers either help you or try to take you down by summoning a variety of enemies, events, or rewards. (Nothing like spawning a few mines and tentacles to mess with somebody).

Stuck on squishy matter is there any way to get unstuck?

Stuck would like to get unstuck from squishy matter north of base if possible or do i just need to abandon the mission? 4x3 -0 seed 8550 build 4319

Can't Unlock Artifact in last stage

I can't seem to unlock the locked artifact needed to clear the last stage. I've visited all POIs and deactivated two of the locks. If there's a third one it looks like it is nowhere to be found.

Demo feedback

Concept is fun but quite buggy. Knights get easily stuck on a lot of things, like those big fan like plants, or 'whale' [red food] bones, causing them to twerk in place. AI will sometimes pick paths that take them all over the map instead of a simpler route to their target. It forces a player to micromanage them a lot. Sometimes they will randomly decide to start collecting resources that are far away from the base or available O2 tethers. During extraction, if a knight has artifacts in inventory instead...

Bug: First area "Who dares wake me from my slumber"

Game freeze on encounter with a glowing crystal. Zoom and text with "Who dares wake me from my slumber" Only recourse is alt-f4. Happened twice now.
