Happy Father's Day!

It has been a bit over a year since Super Totally Dad Showdown was released! During this time over 180,000 people have put their dadly skills to the test and the continued support has been far greater than we could ever have imagined!

An Update on the Team

Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown was created as a capstone project by a group of 15 university students. Since its release, the team has graduated and has started the next steps in our careers. For some of us, this was grad school, while others have been able to land jobs working at various companies in the games industry.

None of us would be where we are now if it wasn't for this game and we are eternally grateful to everyone who has tried our game!

Because the team is now doing a variety of amazing things unfortunately this means that STUDS will not be a live service game like many of your other favorite titles and for the most part work on this project has ceased, with one exception...

Online Multiplayer

When Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown came out we chose to use Steam's remote play feature to provide a way for people to play the game together across multiple devices. We have seen the feedback that remote play is not a viable option for everyone and are attempting to bring networked multiplayer to you as soon as we can.

Work on this is done in addition to our full-time responsibility, and as none of us do game networking for a living it has been a bit of a learning experience. We have been able to make continual progress and are very excited to bring it to you as soon as we feel the networking is at an acceptable level!

50,000 Player Milestone

Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown has reached 50,000 players today! The development team wants to give a huge thank you to everyone that has supported this student project on the journey to this amazing milestone!

Online Multiplayer

We have listened to your feedback and thanks to the community support and advice we are proud to announce that we are working on bringing networked multiplayer to the game!

During the initial two-semester timeframe, we were unable to dedicate the resources needed to bring this feature to the game. However, with the growth of the community, it has become evident that networking is something that will greatly improve the quality and experience of your time spent duking it out with friends to become the ultimate dad.

Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown Launch

Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown has officially left early access!

The 1.0 update contains a new game mode, Penny Pincher, a new map for the Stroller Race Mode, Steam achievements, and some bug fixes, and some minor improvements.

PENNY PINCHER

This is a new game mode in which dads battle kids for control of the house's power bill. Kids try to turn on as many appliances as possible, while dads try to keep the power bill as low as they can by turning off appliances and putting kids in time out.

DOWNTOWN

This is an all-new map for the existing stroller race game mode. Race other dads through the city center, avoiding the train tracks and car wash before you race to the top of the parking garage to become the top urban dad!

Everyone here at Sandalled Socks team is so excited to share the senior capstone project that we have been working on for the past year. We want to give a huge shoutout to everyone who tried our game during the early access and contributed valuable feedback to make STUDS a project both the developers and players can be happy with!

A quick update on the status of our launch:

Unfortunately, we encountered some unexpected last-minute issues with the game build that we determined would be a big issue to the overall gameplay experience to unfortunately warrant a delay in our launch. The team is currently working to resolve these issues so that you can get your hands on the release as soon as possible.

STUDS is Leaving Early Access!

STUDS is releasing out of Early Access on Friday, May 7th!

The 1.0 update will contain a new game mode, a new map, Steam achievements, some bug fixes, and some minor improvements.

Patch Notes for April 21

0.5.3 is a minor update aimed at improving the player experience in The Dad Depot:

Replaced Garden Center water spills with fire hydrant-style water spurts
Fixed bug that prevented player input when trying to navigate to the main menu from the pause menu

Early Access Update #1

We've been working hard to implement your feedback for our first major update. Players wanted more ways to mess with their friends in the stroller race, so we've added new obstacles that are only activated by players. Keep an eye out for some crates that drop throughout the level. Players also expressed confusion with the shopping list in The Dad Depot, so we've made some adjustments to the required items, and replaced the shopping list text with images of the required items. These are just some of the many changes, fixes, and improvements we've made over the last few weeks since launch.

STROLLER RACE

Added four player-controlled obstacle events
Added an arrow to indicate the location of a player’s stroller
Adjusted placement & difficulty of various obstacles

SHOPPING SPREE

Replaced shopping list text with images
Shopping items that have been placed on carts now cannot be grabbed by other players if a player is actively holding the cart
Added an exclamation point above the player's head when near a shopping item
Removed “SlowSign” as a required shopping item
Removed “Propane” as a required shopping item (exploding propane is still active)
Added “Vacuum” as a required shopping item
Increased the number of randomized forklifts by 1
Almost doubled the raising/lowering animation speed of the forklifts
Slightly increased the wait time before being able to interact with the forklifts after activation

SOUND

Added new main menu music
Added sounds for button clicks

GENERAL

Added early access notice on game startup
Added functionality to hide mouse cursor outside of menus
Modified the descriptions in the level select to represent the recommended number of players for each game mode
Redirected menu “Feedback” to our community Discord server instead of our website

KNOWN BUGS

In Shopping Spree, when attempting to return to the main menu from the pause menu, the game no longer detects player input FIXED
Aspect ratio gets cropped on widescreen monitors
Video settings menu: “graphics” and “resolution” default values are not accurately reflected in the dropdown menus. (Functionality still works when new options are selected by the player)
Mouse cursor sometimes stays on screen outside of menus
Closing the pause menu by pressing the “escape” key instead of clicking the “resume” button can lead to UI overlapping
Music volume may sometimes fluctuate intermittently
Stroller Race AI sometimes get stuck
Victory scenes may not accurately reflect player placement after finishing a round
