What do running shoes even do?

I've had them, and had to backtrack a bunch, and they didn't save me any movement points?? What's the point of them?

Well it's a random chance to not cost you movement. I've had them make it so I could explore all the outside areas with no stamina cost before. Sounds like you just got some bad RNG.

They absolutely save you movement points. Look up in the top left corner when moving between rooms and sometimes you'll see when they activate. I don't know the exact frequency they activate pretty often.
