Video won't play on Steam Deck

I know this is listed as a known issue in this forum but I think it's disingenuous for this to be partially verified on the Steam Deck when you can't even get the cutscenes on some Steam Decks.

Getting a refund now but I will wait for full verifications and patches down the line and then rebuy. I am eager to play this but I want the full experience on the Steam Deck, not what is advertised which is only the text being small which is an easy fix.

I don't blame the devs so much for this as I blame Valve for still not having that great of a Deck verification qualifications.

Just thought people should know.

GE-Proton worked! Some weird pixel issues on the main menu. But the opening cutscene is working right now!

Edit Gameplay seems perfect, no pixel issues in first room at least. I'm kinda at Disney World right now so I didn't get to test more, gotta go drink around the world.

Good workaround for the meantime.
That's the magic of PC device versus consoles which have to wait for weeks/months or just never be fixed sometimes.

From there get the latest GE-Proton.
Set Blue Prince's compatibility to GE-Proton.
It's well worth getting this, it fixes many other games.

You mean for Linux, right? Proton does nothing for WIndows?

Are you confirming that videos are playing without issue on proton GE?

Loved the demo, very interested in this game but won’t buy until the videos are working on deck or Valve changes it’s ‘playable’ rating to reflect that videos are not working out of the gate.

GE would be a nice temporary fix if you are confirming it remediates the issue fully.

It works with GE but not with regular Proton because of the video codecs. GE has them included but the regular doesn’t for licencing stuff. It will work when they update the shaders (as the video in shaders doesn’t have the licencing problem) in next version. It is ALWAYS better to play new games or demos with GE to not to have this issue.

All in all, it's weird that the game can work with normal launch settings only on some decks.

It's not that weird as you explain yourself anyway.
Loads of people tinker with their Steam Deck settings in various ways and there are countless youtube guides out there to add custom bits and pieces - so many people follow some guide and then completely forget they ever did it.

I had some weird issues with my deck a while back that seemed to randomly happen and then i remembered i'd installed decky loader and followed some other guides to do certain non vanilla things.

The game seems to run fine on my OLED and i have definitely moved it beyond the vanilla setup - so either those who have the game working have done something for another game that also helps here - or those with issues have done something for another game that is now causing issues with this.

Same issue on Windows 11, RTX 3070 Ti, i7-8700K. I filed a bug report, sent over zipped savefiles and DXDiag. Got my second white screen video right now, so something is up with all videos it seems.
They wanted me to try and update my GPU driver, but I got the latest installed, so who knows what is causing it.

I just used Proton GE and it worked fine, but yes I had rainbow bars upon loading. Will update if I see more issues.

Unfortunately, I’ve had the same issue with my steam deck. When I start a new game, instead of an intro video I see a frozen colored screen. I can press-hold B to skip it and go straight to the game but I don’t want to play the game if I’m going to have issues with the cutscenes.
So, for now, I had to ask for a refund from steam (already approved) and I raised a ticket on the publisher’s page. If and when those problems are resolved I will definitely buy the game again as it seems to be right up my alley, at least from what I’ve seen in gameplay videos.
