I have found that Inside Forwards are still better than Inverted Wingers. In real life I don't there are many that are world class and effective. In terms of the ME, I still find traditional wingers work so much better for me. If I am at a club that don't have many or any, I just use Wing Backs and go with two forwards.
Yeah, wingers are the only ones that keep width for most the time and really important to my tactic, otherwise the middle just becomes too packed...which inevitably happens anyway on the ME. Looking to turn Alphonso Davies into a winger and the best option in the game by the looks of things. Kinda weird though that there aren't many options for players that rate well in role of winger
I also tried when trying to use IW’s to set them to stay wider when without the ball, but that didn’t seem to yield much benefit as I like to play with slightly wider width rather than narrow. 4-2-3-1 wide is my favourite formation as I much prefer wing play. As you say the default ME tactics seem to bundle every player in to the middle, but traditional wingers stay out wide. The right one on attack mentality can be devastating. Davies though is a bit of a monster and in real life he got converted to a wing back by Bayern, so pretty sure you should be successful by retraining him.
Just that his finishing sucks haha
Inclined to agree here. Wing play on the native foot side for me has been very good, but admittedly IW and IF positions don't seem to fit my style of play. The ME is pretty shocking all round on many levels.
There may have been a lot of luck involved, though; the guy's expected goals versus actual goals was pretty out of whack.
