Log into account?

I have played this game for a long time, today I tried to log in and had to agree to new terms and conditions.
Now it wont let me log in via steam the way I always have, it wants email etc.
What is going on, im so confused.

I don't want to lose my progress by creating an account on an email address when I have been logging into the game via steam ever since I first joined.

the game has always required a login, and you would have used one to play in the beginning as well. at no point in the game's history has a steam login been sufficient alone
