You CAN get rid of the Narwhal.

Sailing around the area containing the Central Camp, I noticed another one if those red and white pads that you fill with fish to make the narwhal bust through some ice for you. It is on the Southern side of the little island. Once you have broken away all the walls of ice you need to get through with the narwhal, go to that pad, fill it with fish, and back away. The narwhal will come over and do his usual destruction and snacking. After that, you will never see the narwhal again. I stress the fact that you should save this one for last if you want to get through all the barriers.

That only distracts the narwhal. It does come back eventually. Takes about five in-game days for a whole basket, less if you don't fill it completely.

Thanks. I had a feeling it might come back since you can refill it. I sailed around for a day or two and saw nothing. Now I know it is a little longer.
