Yellow flags - where are they?

I've been told to look for the yellow flags by the old whaler guy. I've gone around the island and haven't found them. Any help is appreciated.

If you mean the part where you're supposed to detonate explosives, it's through the rock arch in the middle.

Yeah, I went in there...and got chased/hit by a gigantic fish/monster. How do you get by it?

Found some posts about just letting the monster hit you and then continue on your way. I did this and then found the flags. So, have to take some damage to get the job done. Sigh.

The monster won't necessarily appear there, but yeah, until you get enough speed to outpace the thing, you just gotta take the hit.

If you go under the archway, you can hide behind the little rock to your right and the monster won't spot you.

If you can avoid the monster long enough to get back to the bay, it generally loses interest and goes off somewhere else long enough to get to the explosives. Also, I have found that if you spend enough time in the western channels, the monster will spawn there even if you have left, and you can go everywhere else in peace for quite some time. It gets so angry you can hear it roaring away in the west from the bay!

I went through the arch, it then spotted me. I reversed, did a 180 degree turn then led him out of the arch to almost at the town close by. I quickly turned, went through arch to the left and the flags are on your right hand side a short way in. It gave me enough time to pull up, detonate and get away before it caught me.

I've been postponing the missions with the monster for a long time, since I kind of always panicked

Today I just went straight in from the backside / North (with the little hut you can only rest in), and started dredging. The beast hit me once so I lost 2 hull hit points, but it went away again, leaving me in peace to dredge and go back.

Same happened with detonating the explosives. No problem at all.

I've upgraded the speed quite much and have the lvl 3 hull, but I doubt any is needed if it only attack once. Or maybe I was just lucky? Has it attacked any of you several times in 'one go'?

Anyway, suddenly it wasn't so scary anymore
