I might be biased because I put a loooooooooooot of time into it, but to be truthful I didn't like it at first, because the graphics are kind of rough. Getting over that hurdle, I found a really interesting game with a great character roster a really cool, unique urban occult/horror atmosphere. The grittiness of the locations and setting help sell the game, and then when you get into the groove of scoring (getting as many x8's as possible, as fast as possible), the game became extremely addictive, to the point where it's one of my most played, if not the most played shmup I've ever played.

It's not without its quirks though! You either love the final boss "milk" (ie, farming crystals from the spider lady before she transforms), or you don't. Luckily, the game can be enjoyed either way and I came to really like the crystal farming trick since it takes a lot of skill to do well (and a lot of players have started trying to push the game's score this past year, the top 10 leaderboard looks totally different than it did a year ago). Even without that I know a number of guys who enjoyed learning how to 1cc the game and coming away satisfied.

If you like this game the first is definitely worth looking into.

I don't think it can be understated how ugly and rough the first game LOOKS but it's still a SnS game and still has the inherent quality to it even if it doesn't give you Touhou tier eye-candy and is still a first attempt in the franchise.

That said I'll buy CS3 so fast it'll make your head spin if it gets brought to Steam. Some of the dialogue alone in that game is just phenomenal. (While the dub actors of that game did, if memory serves, a fine job given the material, I will go on record saying you do not need to score that dub if you can get the JapVAs at least as far as my wallet is concerned.)

As a reminder, while it was not published/localized by our esteemed hosts of this game, Alfa made a de facto fourth Shikigami no Shiro game linked below. It is quite good and worth playing if you want more SnS. The DLC character is Fumiko too if you're into the Shikigami story but it's just there as a reference for SnS nerds to freak out. Every other character is a familiar SnS shot type even if the characters and story are different this time.

Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to seeing shikigami 3 on pc with the wii dub if that's even at all possible. I loved playing Reika in a modern game. Elevator action deluxe was fun too.

Castle of Shikigami 3 is one of my favorite bullet hell game aside from turbo force! I'd love a Castle of Shikigami 4 too.

Castle of Shikigami 3 is one of the first series i ever play at the arcade place. Couldn't understand the story because I don't read Japanese. Cant wait for English version! Looking forward this game to release!

It has an english version, just not a pc version with the english parts
