I don't think they are the same title though.....
Nevermind found the difference, they are literally the same game, but "for the awesome" is has more content. Therefore if you play "for the awesome" there is no point in playing "disregard for gravity."
Example: game Level 22 owners got new 2016 edition for free: https://steamcommunity.com/app/431290/discussions/
More differences:
- ARDfG is smoother but the graphics are a bit duller.
- FTA's spectator colors are vivid and very easy to differentiate - with ARDfG some levels like Welcome to the Descent of Fans especially have the red protesters a very dull color that barely qualifies as red.
- The hitbox on ARDfG is a bit different, slightly bigger. This makes scoring plates easier but precision flying a lot harder. Brutal Concussion levels are a nightmare, IMO, and I'm grateful they are not in FTA.
- On the other hand, ARDfG's hit detection is way more consistent. Rapid Hate Rapid Love Rapid Go Go Go is notoriously difficult on FTA but on the original game it's not too hard.
In general, I think For the Awesome is the better game, but only slightly.
Kero covered the content differences quite well, above, and the hitbox and graphics changes. However, "Awesome" has been updated quite a bit since then, while "Reckless" hasn't as far as I can tell. It still plays like the original version, while "Awesome" plays a LOT differently now (part of the VR conversion, no doubt).
"Awesome's view orientation and control scheme is a lot less "non-VR-friendly" than it used to be. No doubt, this all made it a lot MORE VR-friendly. But that's clearly the main focus of the game as it exists today. If you have a Rift, Vive, etc, "Awesome" is the way to go. If you don't... the original game may suit your taste better (as it does for me).
