Nostalgia got to me and I wanted to play one of the greatest games of all time again, but instead I played through this excuse of a remaster they dare call "The Definitive Edition". I even gave them tons of time to fix the bugs that were there since release before I bought it, but I guess doing the basics was too hard for them. Even Grove Street is full of bugs, from floating grass, to missing collisions, to invisible walls in random places. Most of their focus seems to have been on Los Santos, since San Fierro and Las Venturas and the areas in between barely changed (well, they did, now they're missing collisions as well). The new models seem out of place, the AI enhanced signs are terrible and even the cutscenes were ruined. From trees being placed in front of the camera (which aren't there in the originals), or the camera zooming in (or out) indefinitely. It's just a complete mess that I recommend you stay away from, lest you want to ruin your childhood memories with this game.

GTA: the Decrepit Edition

When I first heard they were remaking GTA 3, VC & SA I was ecstatic. The original PS2 GTA games remade using GTA V engine, graphics and game play. God how I was wrong. Don’t buy this unless it is on sale, like I did.

Will you have fun? Yes, but this could have been so much better.

Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive had the money, personnel and experience to remake two of the best GTA games ever made. But that isn’t what we got.

After I saw the first game play vid the graphics and how people look like plastic toys, my hype dropped. The original PS2 graphics were much better, and when I saw it was made by Grove Street Games (and not Rockstar), my anticipation hit rock bottom. The same people who did the horrible iOS and the 10 year anniversary versions for PS3/Xbox 360 and PC (which were just ports of the iOS version).

If they did what we expected, when we heard remake I would have easily paid £70+ for a remaster collection, hell I would have paid even more if they had done the VC and LC Stories games as well, using the “Rockstar Advanced Game Engine” (RAGE) and got all the old music back. But they didn’t do that, so this collection is worth £30 at most.

There are bugs galore, a lot have been fixed but some have not (mainly in GTA: SA that I’ve seen), one minor example that pops up quite a lot is that I’ve had the radio cut out mid song while diving along randomly. also the UI doesn't work half the time. You hear a noise every now and then when a stat has changed, be it lost/gain a skill/stat marker (weight, stamina, lung capacity or Weapon/driving skill) but in the PS2 version you would see a pop up saying whats changed in this you only hear the noise, currently you only see it if it his a major marker.


But the main bug that needs to be fixed! Is the Enemies Accuracy.


In the OG PS2 GTA: SA the enemies have different Accuracy, if you were in a car they had it set to 100%, on a bike it was lowered and on foot lowered even more, but there was a bug that made it were it wouldn’t switch to the correct Accuracy when spawning enemies in.

In the GTA: SA Dumped Edition, instead of using that system and fixing the bug they have just set it to 100% accuracy permanently. So on missions where you have to get into a close firefight you can get shredded in seconds and the same with during Gang Wars.

I’ve seen it that while running down a street and some rival gang or police sees me, they start firing and if they are close enough I would lose over half my health and I’ve done the Paramedic mission that gives you maximum health value, so around 80% or just straight dead for anyone else. That was running away and not stopping, to get in to a firefight.

One of the other problems that this game has is the aim feature.

In the PS2 version you could use lock on and then quick switch to another enemy (with LT or RT) so fighting a load of people was easier it had Manual aim but was rarely used. In the Defunked Edition, the controls are automatically set to Modern which for a lot of people will be fine as they are the same from GTA V, but the quick switch is now done by moving the Right analogue stick and half the time it just doesn’t work, 30% it will work but will select a random enemy not the next closest and the last 20% it just goes straight in to manual aim.

You can switch to Original PS2 controls but it will take some time to get used to, and the fact that the fire button is only on the B/O button means very hard to manual aim as you need your thumb to fire and control the aim, and the Triggers will no longer break or accelerate while driving in Cars or Bikes. I do wish you could customise your own Controller controls in game.

I’ve played all of GTA: VC and just got off the first island of GTA: SA. VC is in better condition overall compared to SA. I love VC and SA they are the best GTA games hands down with the two Stories games coming a close second.

I have to give GTA VC a 7/10 the game play is straight OG VC with some minor improvements, but the plastic/play dough graphics are what drag it down.

SA, I hate to do this but I will give it a 6/10. As with the Graphics from VC and how the engine is a clear down grade compared to the OG PS2 version. You can be driving down the street and the nostalgia hits you hard, the bugs I’ve seen aren’t so bad as to ruin it, but you get into a firefight and the aiming doesn’t work how you want it or one guy with a Tec9/uzi gets to close and kills you in a split second while you’re at full health and with body armour, just gets frustrating.

A lot of the issues are legacy. They're the same ones from the original. Its a remaster, not a remake so this should be expected. The re-skins of the roads, grass, characters are cartoony, at times kinda weird looking. I'm here to say who cares! Its way better than the original. The original now is hazy, blocky mess! As someone who owns 3 different versions I can say without a doubt this is the best way to play this game. The mission checkpoints make a huge difference too.

im biased i love the game itself even with its original flaws, i like somethings on this version but gotta say it could have been much better, buy only if u really love the game!
