Essential mods for OG SA

I have the original SA in a cardboard boxed DVD version, which was sold over here for a long time, iirc I bought mine around 2012, granted that's a while ago, but still. :D
What are the essential mods to whip that version into shape, if any. Iirc it needed some mod or ini file edit to enable proper analogue gamepad controls.
