The recent update for GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition introduced a host of improvements aimed at addressing long-standing complaints.
This includes restoring original lighting, better character animations, improved gunplay, and the return of certain nostalgic visual effects like volumetric clouds and birds.
San Andreas specifically saw enhancements to lighting, weather, textures, and even mission visuals, making it more polished than ever.
The update also added a "Classic Mode," which aims to recapture the original PS2-era look and feel, appealing to fans of the authentic experience
Should you play this version or modded San Andreas?
The Definitive Edition now offers a much more stable and visually refined experience, with fewer bugs and a balance between modern graphics and nostalgia.
However, some players still prefer modded originals due to their authenticity and the ability to customize extensively.
If your main concern is the "plastic" look, the updates have toned this down significantly, but the aesthetic might still feel different from the original.
A modded San Andreas can offer the exact old-school vibe but often requires more technical setup and lacks modern enhancements like updated controls.
Recommendation:
If you value convenience and a more polished experience, try the updated Definitive Edition. But if authenticity and customizability are your priorities, a modded original may still be the way to go.
Thank you for the very detailed answer, I think I'll have to look at what can be done to this edition with the use of mods, my main concern is the cartoonish like Fortnite look, the originals clearly didn't aim for that, San Andreas seems to be the better looking out of the 3, so its likely much better than for example VC when it comes to this regard.
I don't really like DE but it's hard to ignore the fact the old versions don't even run properly on modern hardware, so if you don't want to screw around with mods or community patches DE is still a functional way to play the game.
Press X to doubt
I got this version for "nostalgia" but it runs worse than GTA V and gameplay is trash even though some improvements were added like autosaves, waypoints, better controls
just get skyrim or sth
no you shouldnt. whats fun about the old trilogy is that you dont have checkpoints. if mission over then mission over. thats why old gta was so much fun. it dident treat you like a child
