The old games seem like the best versions they could have produced back in the day. Textures and models weren't top notch but consistent and fitting. Slap on a good CRT shader with minimal scan lines and they look great on the Deck's display.
Now you have this remaster that is nowhere near the best version they could have produced. It's missing very unique songs like from Ozzy Osbourne, Tupac, Tom Patty. Visual effects had been slapped on without carring for the former art. NPCs look like shiny plastic dolls; the "californian" orange tint has been removed from San Andreas.
If they had AT LEAST made it a decent TPS. But even if you look past the visuals and focus on the gameplay, the one thing they could have truly made modern, got just the minimum service. The shooting isn't remotely par on today's standard. Hell, even a Max Payne 1 from 2001 feels better than these 2022 (remastered) games. The only good thing that objectively improve things is the weapon wheel.
I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't even pay five bucks for a weapon selection wheel that comes with all the other mentioned downsides.
Yes, it looks sharper and cleaner and I gotta say I LOVE the new UI. But as for 3d renderings the now clean look also shows many shortcomings of the original games that they imported as well.
At this point they should have done a whole remake for these games. Or if it's gotta be remaster, take the original version (not the mobile ports), take those best versions we had back then, scale up the graphics, clean up the UI, include proper AA and an optional softening filter and optional QoL features like checkpoints in long missions. And because the shooting is the only thing that feels pretty dated, as you're just holding R1/RB for auto focus and pressing Circle/B for shooting. Not very engaging, so you add a reticle and make the shooting like in other TPS like Uncharted, Max Payne, or, you know, since GTAIV, so you don't have to rely on auto aim (on consoles) and can aim over the shoulder. Done.
If this Remastered Trilogy drops down to 10 bucks then MAYBE it's worth giving it a shot.
Anyone wanna spite me by buying this for me?
I prayed to Satan but nothing so far.
Why? idk, the Quality of Life bits like the weapon wheel and radio and other options with a better control scheme out of the box is really nice. I also personally dont hate the graphics either, its just a little jank with the way people in game look.
I've actually put more time into the story this time than ever before even with 3 other versions and I regret nothing... yet
I like the vibe, colors, nicer look and a LOT better controlls. I barely nocited lack of some tracks or minor changes. It should be cheaper but I did not loose my mind like some players who behave like they know those game better than their family.
