Recent update made UNPLAYABLE

Rockstar PLS

Since the recent update it has rendered the game unplayable.

Once you attempt to boot the game it states "GTA Vice City Def Edition has exited unexpectedly" Retry or close are the only options given besides verifying integrity of files which has not worked. It seems other games in the Collection work with no issues (GTA 3, SA)

Tried many solutions online and no success. Deleted the game and reinstalled and moved drives. still no success.

Can confirm the same. I'm getting a FATAL ERROR. What's odd?

Not moving around, game still runs but after about 20 seconds of running around, the game crashes with the above error message.

GTA 3 and SA run with no issues as well. Pretty weird.

Don't know if this will help...

Try uninstalling the game, head to your C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA Vice City Definitive Edition folder and delete it. Reinstall the game and perhaps it'll work for you like it worked for me with the error I was experiencing.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will give it a go when I get the chance. I have emailed Rstar for support but i doubt they will be any different from what I can find. Will update of course if anything changes. I did test on Steam Deck and it appeared to work with no issues so far.

There are crash logs as well in the documents/rockstar/VC DE folde, it'll be in a sub folder.

Someone else had recommended I check there, and it gave more of a description of the error message. It's the 10th line in the crash log and it'll be an XML file so you'll have to open it with notepad to look more at it.

try putting -DX12 in the launch options

Funny enough was actually checking this out after searching the directory. I will upload it if needed but the error line seems to be this:

[crashdetection] Exit code 0xc0000005 indicates a fatal game exit (reason: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION)
[ ERROR ] [ 3676] [gamelaunch] Game did not create a window and exited with code 0xc0000005, which likely indicates a fatal game exit during startup

Interesting. I still say that folder is acting as the culprit. I’m willing to bet something is corrupt like an .INI file or maybe a corrupt save in someway. Or maybe something else within it,

I’m still shocked I got my game working. Hope we can get yours back up.

I know right, glad to hear you are up and running! I was reading some more but still no reply from Rstar at the moment. Thanks TDK appreciate the suggestions even if I am still unsuccessful

Lololol I wish I honestly could and revert prior update since it was working no issues. Not sure what has changed?

Idk anything about pc's but
I installed the game few days ago again due the update
And then 2 days ago i saw some 8 gb update but it was called "patching"

I have no clue what that meant or what changed but 8 gb do be lot since thats the whole game

ehh all good, any help is appreciated trust. but yes 8 GB is a decent update so I am still waiting to see if there is anything Rstar says.

Getting the same crashes. Tried reinstalling, nothing. Not sure what it could be.

The only solution I found that worked was removing that folder I mentioned. Did you give that a shot?
