16 GB RAM? Why?
Why does this game require as much as 16 GB of RAM, when the original was made a long time ago?

Because of hires textures and models.
You can roughly compare them via Gant Bridge facts of San Andreas

The same bridge model takes ~30x more space than the original.
cause this is the remaster, not original

Even if a game is “remastered,” its core functioning doesn’t really change, the main “engine” remains old, with only the visuals updated: textures, sounds, effects. I find it strange why such high requirements are set, as much as 16 GB of RAM. That’s already more than enough to play “GTA V Online,” a game that, essentially, is on a completely different level.

Those who developed this “remastered” version could have focused less on the game’s design, which consumes a lot of RAM, and more on improving the actual game mechanics.
Min sys requirement for GTA Vice City DE is 8 GB, not 16.
8 GB is not just for the game, it also includes the OS usage.
And 8 GB for a gaming PC is not enough anyway, many games would stutter like hell(eg Batman Arkham Knight which is 10 years old). 16 GB is a reasonable minimum and 32 GB is a standard. So why you complain about this requirement I dunno.

Any remastered game has its textures updated in the first place, here's where RAM and disk space are from. Without that it would be just an old game with fixes. If you want that just use originals with SilentPatch.
Game doesn't even run on the same engine it was ported over to unreal engine which has always had problems anyway
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1546990/screenshots/?p=1&browsefilter=toprated From what I see, the game is almost identical to the original, but in most places, the graphics are really rough, and requiring 16 GB of RAM is quite a strange decision. It’s unfortunate that this version doesn’t have co-op, which would’ve been a big plus. I think the original version is better. Thanks for the answers. We’ll be waiting for GTA 6.
and requiring 16 GB of RAM is quite a strange decision
Again this is false, it requires 8 GB of RAM.

System Requirements

Minimum:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-6600K / AMD FX-6300
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB
Storage: 10 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible
higher fidelity == higher requirements, nothing "strange" about it no matter how many times you gonna say it

Visuals, textures and sound take up more RAM than the core functions do, should be really obvious

And no, a remaster doesn't typically improve game mechanics, that would be a remake. There's a difference.

Haha, trying to play GTA V Online with just 4GB of RAM because it says "Minimum: 4GB RAM"? Good luck with that!

Minimum specs just let a game limp along with lag and low graphics, while recommended specs give you the smooth, full experience the developers intended. Most gamers care about the latter since they match modern hardware and actually make the game fun.

Alright, so you always wanna go by the "recommended" specs, not just the "minimum" ones. Sure, the game might run on minimum, but that doesn’t mean you’ll actually enjoy playing it. For this game, you’re gonna need 16GB of RAM to get the good experience. That’s why it feels strange to me that such requirements exist.
Did you actually try running GTA VC DE @ 8 GB RAM or you just extrapolating?

And as was already said what matters for memory consumption are textures and model sizes, You still want game with hires textures take as low memory as the original GTAs for some reason.
if youre not gonna listen why ask the question? lol
the gwaphics being upgraded did it. as slight and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as they may be its most likely rockstar wanting to cover their asses and not have some goob with a 1060 still asking why the game wont run. so they go over even tho its *minimum* just upgrade your pc, dude. 16gb is now the standard to have in your pc. 8gb runs slower than old ppl ♥♥♥♥.

Strong disagree, as a game developer here the core game engine no longer exist, its unreal now, probably you wanted to mention the same logic, also, it makes sense, the ram is where is the place where the textures are being temp stored to streamed fast as it could, most of them being 30 times more

I come to the conclusion that no matter what kind of computer it is, even if it’s the newest and costs $10,000, when playing this game CPU usage will be close to 100%.

Thanks, I think I’ll stick with the first version, because it’s simple, basic, this one is way too complicated ;D
In reality, this game does not consume more than 6 gigabytes of RAM if you have a video card with more than 4 gigabytes of VRAM
