Rare Spawn Rate
Is there anywhere that has the base spawn chance of rare monsters listed? Or does anyone know the base chance? Does it change depending on the monster, or is it always the exact same? (Trying to get variant octopus and just curious to know how often it actual shows up).

yeah, somehow I thought it was both. I did finally get the Chimera on day 3 of farming it, btw: it gives Rare Monster Spawn Chance, which felt like a complete slap in the face. Still, put it into my farming team and am now going for what I assume is the Fairy Dragon, since there's a guy in the same zone that wants Fairy Dragon research :P

If you have the Fairy Dragon, use the Demon King strategy to boost your research

I've killed hundreds of thousands of the other enemies (130 Sword Spirit, 170K Shard Harpy, 189K Spellbook Beetle, and 107K Rune Lizard), and in that time, I've fought exactly 417 Libra Chimeras, and 60 of them dropped their research. And sadly, most of those kills are from the Demon King, not the actual area.

That's an extremely low encounter rate, and even lower drop rate. That's with most of the boosts you can get, too (apart from using Libra Chimera itself). So, the drop rates are ridiculously low, as in, leaving your machine on overnight grinding the area for multiple days for an encounter.

Each subsequent area also seems to have an even lower rare spawn rate than the previous ones. It was far easier to find Flower Fairies than the Chimera, for example. It was a bit more difficult to get the Forest Fairy, then more difficult to get the Purification Slime, etc. For example, I have roughly the same number of kills from the first area creatures as the second area creatures; I've encountered the Flower Fairy about 3,150 times, but I've only encountered the Forest Fairy 508 times, a 6-fold reduction in rarity. And given the numbers of kills I have, I should be approaching the true drop rate, whatever it is.

So, yeah, it's a real pain to get the later rare enemies. It's a good thing you can then cheese their drops with the Demon King strategy, or else
Does the Demon King strategy work for drops or only research? I've found 2 Dragon Livers my entire career and trying to finish off my Equipment...
looks like it works for drops :) just had to set a slow skill so he finishes summoning before I blow him up

The typical strategy is put in a water element summon into your party (because once you get the weapon attack speed summons, you will attack faster, making it no longer viable) and have them use Brain Domination. It takes about the same amount of time, maybe a little longer, as it takes the Demon King to cast Summon. It's great for research as well as seeds. You can very quickly boost all of your summons that way... it's why my Blazing Aura sits at 7.86B levels at the time of this being written

I'm trying to get my first initial Fairy Dragon research
Damn thing won't spawn.
I dont really have a problem with the spawn rate but with the first resaerch drop... I mangaed to defeat 60 fairy dragons but not once got any research,
(this is just my theory but maybe the rare monster need some kind of item in the inventory to even apear or drop research?
what I mean is you guys talked about leveling up queen bee on page 1, that needs honey right?
I dont know what Fairy dragon needs to level up, but maybe the chance gets better if you have a lot of the resource for the coresponing enemies??? )

Like I said its my theory only, my runs is 45 day now since last reincarnation and I only spend time in mountain road. ^^;
But tbh I use the time to get the glutony done so that i dont need to focus on that anymore lol

There is multiple ways to set it up not even needing to use specific spell
Just have to use abilities which combined equal cast time of unbuffed Brain Domination I used Bee Honey in my setup before for example.

If you have the magic skill "Brain Domination" from the Tamer lineup, equip it to your strongest Water summon without the Weapon element (e.g. Beauty Camel) and put it in the front. It will take exactly as long to cast the skill as it takes the Demon King to Summon, resulting in him 'summoning' the monsters, but being wiped out in the same tick; as the battle ends when the Demon King dies, all the new summons will immediately die too, resulting in all their loot and research dropping at the same time.

Additional note for this method: After defeating the Demon King for the 1st time, the Demon King would be placed at the top of the enemy list even after summon. As such, there is no need to time the skill perfectly to kill the Demon King at the same time as the Summon skill. This allows for combos such as using Queen Bee 'Honey Production' then another summon with attack skill.
The beauty camel is not particularly desirable as a member of your party when farming the demon king, because it doesn't enhance seed or research drops. As others have said, you can put a nonaggressive party member at the top to buy time for the summon to complete. The Queen bee is a passable choice but has a couple problems:
1) Cast time as a bit long, at 3 seconds. You have to use sharp spike or wind step (if spike is too fast, which it typically is), so that slows each kill a bit.
2) She only drops a modest amount of seeds compared to other allies. Not sure why that is but you can check in the bestiary to see,

I usually prefer to use the dragon baby. Its 2 second chargeup is nice because you have many skills in the 2.1-2.6 second range which you can use to fine-tune your attack so you can kill the DK as soon as the summons appear. If your weapon speed makes Power Stab (2.4s) too fast, for example, you can switch to Hunting Blow (2.5s).

The baby also drops more than 2x the seeds the queen does. Depending on your party, this is going to be maybe 5-10% more seeds in total. And finally, its research is useful for gluttony while the QB's isn't (at least so far, perhaps in the late game rare research is useful?).

QB has 100% RDC, while DB only has 80%, but DB has 4% seed drop instead, which I think more than makes up for that.

I used both for a long time, but once I got the third guardian's allies and Valley Village allies, mostly gave up the QB (except for when I want some honey).

The best monster to have when farming the demon king would probably be gold slime. It gives rare metal, which is incredibly useful when farming for mithril in the smith village. Not to mention that any gold you don't need can be put towards mana shards for equipment.

Other question... I've read somewhere that Rare swans always occure in the first wave. Is that true?
Rare monsters are not limited to the first floor of a dungeon, they have a chance of spawning each floor.

thx
While I'm replying to Odega, I'll update what I wrote as I now know more...

The Gold Slime in the party will cut your opportunity cost (in lost gold), but even with its 150G drop (100% drop rate) and selling the rare metal it might drop (nothing close to 100% rate), it will make you much less gold than just smearing the cobra with sharp spike repeatedly (often useful because of the Holy Water drop), much less later bosses. It all depends on what you want to do. But in general, if I'm grinding DK, I want seeds (and occasionally research, when I have new allies). The gold can wait until I'm done. So I'll prioritize seed or research drops, or things that aid that (Dryad boosts, drop chance).

Farming the DK can have another major purpose: It's WAY faster to get certain difficult resources that way. You mentioned rare metal, but in addition to that there's steel, which is super painful to get the normal way, and runes (which you'll need a couple thousand of, roughly, and which you can get ~7 every time around - 5 from the silver dragon and 2 from the octpus (~20% drop rate of ~10 runes). You can also do that for stone, wood, herbs, and other things.

Anyway, to update what I wrote earlier: As you go along, eventually both the QBee and Dragon Baby will fall by the wayside as you get more productive allies. At that point you're likely to have more MP and regen, and using braindom gets to be a better bet.
