You don't actually reincarnate until confirmation - the actual reincarnation is what gives the sin.
You are right in that there's not much reason to keep pushing unless you are really close to the next sin.
One thing I haven't tested is whether you get the 'Each Clear Bonus' after you've 5/5'd it.
I`d say unlocking hermit is an exception to this. Rather try getting 2-3 more sins than wait another reincarnation.
