As for the hand cannon, yeah, I tend to keep that equipped until I need the rifle. The tactical pistol is good for those long neck things too, but nothing else.
How useful did you find the hand cannon?
If you're at all concerned about how many credits are needed for weapons, the Riot Gun should be at the top of the efficiency list, because you get it free.

It's VERY useful, especially when upgraded, and the bonus explosive round capability comes in handy near end of game on Hardcore.

With regards to the looting and selling, this was one of the things I REALLY hated about the game: your inventory space is WAY too small, and there's no place to store the excess like in the Dead Space games.
Prior to the suit, you only have 6 spots, which is hardly enough for anything. Even the lv1 suit in Dead Space gave you more than that. Not to mention there's many spots in the game where once you cross a certain point, you can't backtrack to the reforge station (though they did this quite a bit in Dead Space 2 as well).
Anyways, since you said there's plenty of credits if you loot everything, did you also have enough to upgrade the GRP all the way as well?
You said you upgraded the Hand Cannon and Riot Gun all the way. But did you still have enough to fully upgrade the GRP and Stun Baton after that?
Because I saw no need for the assault rifle to deal with the Two-Headed Brute. It makes things easier, but the AR isn't ESSENTIAL.
The Q here is if you limit yourself to just the hand cannon, riot gun, GRP, and stun baton, are there enough credits to fully upgrade ALL of them or not.
You mean you didn't bother upgrading ANYTHING for the GRP and stun baton when you played the game?
And here I thought there were enough credits to fully upgrade the Hand Cannon and Riot Gun, even in Hardcore.
The Baton needs even less upgrading, and it's possible to get through with none, even on Hardcore.
