Combat mechanics do not change with updates. It’s still a boxing match in space. Yeah even if it’s a mob vs you. Don’t fret, the other enemies will just conveniently watch you take them on one by one with your trusty baton.
(and a more technical answer would be yes they tweaked and improved a lot of indeed insignificant little things that add up to an improvement while adding full dismemberment, rage and more.)
And they can't just change it without pretty much making a completely different game
Yeah as much as Sonic games are "boring" jump and run affairs.. so did you play it?
Cus with over 18.000+ forum posts I was convinced to find some earlier reactions around, but a welcome to your first one in this community it is!
Ever heard of the weapons there, the grp and powerups btw?
Also, the fact that you can hold to dodge speaks for the combat itself.
I still wouldn’t say the combat was good even without that, but having you at least need to time your dodge like most other games would at least make it better.
If you’re gonna market it as “Dead Space with new combat”, then the new combat better be better considering that’s what they are changing drastically
Only thing that's good is the graphics and maybe the acting. Everything else is very poorly thought out. And some stuff had no thought put into it whatsoever, like the combat. The most annoying thing is the lack of FOV slider. I'm spending the whole game rotating the camera sideways to see what's in front of me.
This is so funny. What were they thinking when they made this game?
They thinking about you because they want to see how mad you will be after playing this game still even if you dont like it xD
At the waste disposal and half the game is crawling through tunnels.
By the way, the combat, I can literally do it with my eyes closed. Hold left, wait till you hear the swing sound, hold right, attack twice, repeat. Playing on Hardcore...
Amazing.
i know right!
Well many of us have been telling people on the boards how much core issues within the game which will never be solved such as combat, level design, enemy variety, and literally 0 originality or story creativity.
The fact is this game was rushed out by Glen because they wanted to capitalise on the DS craze and wanted to gobble up the majority of the DS fan base promising the following:
1) spiritual successor to DS
2) first ever AAAA game
3) made by Glen and team (the original creators of DS)
4) new and improved survival horror
As you may have guessed none of the above hit any milestones. If one were to take this game separately and not compare it to DS obviously this game isn’t that bad as graphics and audio makes up for it. However the core issues as highlighted above cannot be denied and as such i have rated it a mediocre game that should only be gotten off the bargain bin. 40% is still a steal at least on the publishers and devs side.
Like, you can add as much content and optional challenges, but its impossible to fix the combat and level design entirely without just making a different game completely.
Instead of only marketing the graphics and how good they look, they should have first asked if the combat and enemies are scary or fun to fight. Only then do you polish up the graphics.
That was not what they were thinking, that came later in a patch, due to play complaints of monsters ganging up on them and making it too hard.
One of those be careful what you ask for things i suppose you might say, along with the easier dodging.
Initially, you dodged wrong, you got hit, even if you were dodging.
Since you can only lock-on to one enemy and the focus is on melee and dodges, then the enemies either swarm you and it feels unfair, or the enemies wait their turns patiently which makes them look silly.
You'd think horror devs would learn what not to do from Silent Hill Homecoming, but I guess history repeats itself.
Its a weird line between intentionally underpowering combat (classic RE/SH), and just bad combat (Homecoming/Callisto). Dead Space original also did that well, where you have the tools, but you're just not as smooth in mobility that theres always a chance you'll mess up and thats how things get scary.
