What TV model?
Issue I have with it isn't the brights, they look strong, it's the blacks - they're too grey. The dark areas don't seem inky black enough, which isn't an issue in any other HDR game I've played. I did adjust it a bit just there and it improved, but not a lot.
I always find things like this completely subjective - what one person thinks looks great, another doesn't and vice versa.
No black crush: Check
Blinding lights in places: Check
Not washed out: Check.
I raised brightness a touch and lowered black levels using the in game menu.
I will add that when they first introduced HDR it was terrible.
MSI mpg321ur-qd. It's a good monitor. I have up to 2000 nits on this game - I'm not an expert on HDR tbf!
They as in this game's devs?
Just as I though your monitor is garbage for HDR. It's an IPS which is terrible in terms of contrast, absolutely the worst in the display tech. Also, you don't have 2000 nits, your display is HDR600, which is average at best. For proper HDR you need at least HDR 1000 and a monitor with good contrast or superb like OLED displays. I have a Odyssey G7 HDR600 monitor and while it looks ok(ish) it looks garbage in comparison to my Odyssey G8 OLED with infinite contrast and HDR 1000.
Interesting that the problems you say happened at the start seem to still be affecting my setup but are fixed for everyone else! Oh well. It's not a game-killer, and I did adjust, but what I'm noticing is the blacks look grey when there's a light in the area as if the HDR isn't quite working as it should.
I have no issues in any other game's HDR.
No, the game.
I just booted up Dead Space HDR, it looked magnificent. Inky blacks, sharp vibrant whites and lights, the way it should.
While Callisto just doesn't look right in HDR.
Maybe it is the one game on planet earth that doesn't work well on my monitor...
