I have found a solution for save problems
Save files located in C/users/appdata/local/CallistoProtocol/Saved/SaveGames. In that folder, if you have save files PhxAutoSave0, PhxAutoSave1 etc. are approximately 200 kb, they are normal and able to play. But in progress, if you die, your auto save files PhxAutoSave0, PhxAutoSave1 become 200 mb. Huge files and makes freezing. When game try to load them, freezes. So thats why you have locate save folder and delete 200 mb files and and only load 200 kb files. Dont die :) If you die, go back and look for last auto save files that exists 200kb.

Clever find and quite interesting - this is an argument for "Manual Saves" which aren't as good as AutoSaves, but at least you can CHOOSE when to save manually...

What fungus is everyone introducing auto seave. In the menu they should give options whether you want to use or not and save manually. Ok, there could be, for example, one slot for recording but manual.

Thanks. Also manuel saves are if 200 kb, same as autos. You can play manuel saves too if you dont die and they are 200 kb :)

Manuel saves work too. Game has a strange bug. When you die, saves become 200 mb. Thats what im talking about. I have found manuel saves from internet and added them to save files location. Started from manuel habitat save and worked so far. Main rule is ''dont die, if you die your save files become 200 mb''.

Also i recommend all of you to play in windowed mode. In order to close game after freezing you dont need to reset your pc :). In windowed mode, you simply can go task manager and close game without pc reset.

Maybe I should also stand on my head and have someone chant a rain dance song. Thanks for trying to help, but this should not happen in a modern full price game. Save file just vanished. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pathetic.

That's actually part of a guide I wrote recently

THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME, the last three days, and I'm so happy to find this fix! THANK YOU for pinpointing the saves games folder for Windows PC's. I haven't actually TRIED this fix yet, but I so far - see NO claims of this NOT working. Even though it's from LAST YEAR... I can only hope for the best. You'll see an addendum edit to my comment here, if it doesn't actually work.

STRIKING DISTANCE STUDIOS: Are you even aware of this? Why are 200 *KB* save files ... turning into unusable 200 *MB* save files? Please KILL this bug in a prompt UPDATE! :steamthis:
yes, it's true that the game creates large files and this is ruining the fun, if anyone knows a solution please help!

have problem with loading save. Game freezing and nothing work. It is also impossible to close the game. Is there any patch that fix this problem or the game it is now abandoned?

This thread is your best bet, it already has all the info you need. There will be no further patches, probably.

The only times I have had save problems I was able to start a new game and as soon as I got to the load screen, the saves were all there (scenario if the Continue tab disappears).

There was also a time when the Continue screen loaded me well back of where I last saved. In that case I waited a day or two and then it loaded me in the right spot.

I'm not excusing the problem, as I feel it should have been fixed with the big performance patch that also changed heal, reload, and dodge mechanics.

I'm just saying sometimes starting a new game and looking in the load menu as soon as you can is also a workaround some have used, but hardly ever gets mentioned.
