Aren't the weapons in this kind of .... bland and boring?
Especially compared to the weapons in the game it is a spiritual successor to....

There are 9 weapons, 3 melee (Only one being somewhat interesting, the stun baton), 2 pistols, two shotguns, a assault rifle, and the GRP (Which is based on the G.R.I.P.)

Dead Space had that neat plasma cutter, and other creative sci-fi engineering tools used for combat.

You are in a space prison on the moon around Jupiter, wouldn't it have made sense to have weapons based on what you might find in a space prison?

Examples:
Stun Gun: Fires arc of electricity to stun enemy, at high settings can carbonize tissue.

Sonic Crowd Control Pulser: Releases a sonic wave that hurts peoples ears, at high settings can release a sonic wave that can hit with the force of a sledgehammer.

Monofilament Buzz Saw: Used to repair prison walls, can easily slice through living tissue, if safety is turned off and the rotation turned up, the blade can fly off.

Emergency Riot Control Laser: Can slice through crowds of rioting criminals with stream of concentrated photons, only for use during emergencies, donated by the military.

Reinforced Sword: A fancy sword used by a murderer and then put on the wall as a trophy by a prison officer, looks like a medieval sword, but is reinforced with a tungsten alloy, and a hidden switch makes it extend serrated cutting hooks along the edge.

Or other things. There was no reason for this game to have such banal weapons, especially when the ones from Dead Space were so creative and interesting.

Just disappointed more than anything...

i agree and your examples are great. when i first started and initially got the skunk i was like oh ♥♥♥♥ this is cool i wonder how many blueprints there are to find then 8 hours in and theres only 4 more... and they are very similar to eachother... now this wouldnt have been as bad if the upgrades were more interesting... or maybe easier to obtain realistically you can only have 2 or 3 maxed out and then by then your almost done with the game.

You'd think there'd be leftover mining or other industrial equipment that could be repurposed as weaponry.

Liking the game but I agree lol. Most disappointing aspect about it for me

guns are bland for sure, I stuck mostly with the hand cannon and the riot shot gun. However, in dead space, the objective was to cut off limbs, and they had some cool guns to do that, but they also had a lot of useless weapons too (especially in DS2)

I agree there wasn't that many - I was expecting at least one more (some version of gravity saw); but otherwise - I think lore may be useful for explaining a lack of others.

Robots are pretty diesel and would likely be dispatched en-masse for riots (as prisoners wouldn't have been as tough as the biophages). I also imagine having 4+ guards near-by with GRPs would also stop a good group of people (Ferris is a sorta bad example being the chief, but before he was infected he tanks almost 3 guys immediately).

Taser is a good call out though - as if anyone managed to get their hands on a guards suit or one of the Enviro suits - it would be a good way I imagine to locking the systems up sending a huge current into it (as they seem fragile as eggs with a single piece of glass saving your life).

Some sonic emitter would also be very useful later as a lure for the blind enemies. Toss it away from you to buy some time or lure a couple of guys to a spot if your low on ammo to sneak by.

One thing I call out a lot lately - where is anything stasis? This has medical applications, it has restraint applications, it has survivability applications depending on how it works (blast falling rubble to slow it down so people can escape in time).

I mean....it doesn't really make sense, the game takes place on a prison, built on a MOON, around Jupiter, and yet there are no directed force or energy weapons (Despite there being a graviton field manipulation device), and your best close range weapon is effectively a bludgeon.....

Consider the game takes place in the year 2320, given the rate of human technological development, ESPECIALLY when it comes to weapons, and how some weapons are targeted to specific uses and locales, that pistols, shotguns, bludgeons, and a assault rifle are the weapons available.......feels like the least realistic aspect of this game...at least in my personal opinion.

Dead Space 1 literally let you get through the whole game with an upgraded plasma cutter. PS all your weapon ideas suck considering you never face more than three at a time unless you can't sneak kill the blind ones.

This game isn't too big on weapons.. your baton is your primary weapon, or at least it should be. For a AAA title, I did expect more though. Oh well...

Weapons in Callisto Protocol was just another letdown. There were some interesting ideas that simply did not work out--weapon modules are interesting idea but it meant to very prolonged change animation that made it almost impossible to switch weapons mid-combat.

Most importantly, weapon were boring and uninspiring, even lazy. Why we had 2 shotguns? Why we had assault rifle and tactical pistol? Weapons did not have clear roles since they all could stagger enemies. This is major difference to Dead Space where you had iconic weapon-plasma cutter-that had key role in combat. It also made it possible to go through the game with just plasma cutter and not feel bored. Callisto Protocol had weapons that lack any identity and only difference was a damage number.

We could had various melee weapons with different reach or dual-wield option. I would expect some kind of weapon able to incapacitate enemies since the combat is so bad when you face multiple enemies. Instead we got boring weapons that are feeling all the same. Wasted opportunity.

Oh? My ideas aren't all that good? Then what would you say are some interesting "Space Prison" themed weapons that would have been better?

I dont think the protagonist would be doing a lot of doom/quake style weapons switching in combat.

For one, you have to semi assemble the weapon.

I dont think that was the intention of the game or what the devs were going for at all
Protagonist is no super soldier.

I just use mostly the baton and the shotgun, or pistol, depending on ammo available.
And the GRP to ♥♥♥♥♥ slap things

Would have been neat to scavenge some parts off the various robots you encounter for some unique upgrades. They could have even made a few more powerful models as minibosses so you don't just fight the same miniboss half a dozen times.

I like your ideas, OP. I also wish there were more weapons but that aspect didn't bother me so much, tbh.
