Stopping mutation by stomping
So, has anyone else tried this? I've attempted it numerous times and I've finished the game and this appears to just not be a mechanic, or if it is, succeeding at it is so situational and unreliable there's just no point.

The tutorial says, and I quote, "stomp on downed enemies to prevent them from mutating further and attacking again." I don't actually know what this is trying to communicate, but my interpretation was "If you stomp on an enemy that has tentacles out, you can delay/stop the mutation."

But every time I've tried to do this it just doesn't seem to work. You basically have two options to down the enemy: trip them after a block, or knock them down with a combo ender or heavy attack. For those two latter options, that simply doesn't work: when you knock them down like that you fling them back and they travel too far. Jacob can't take two steps before they're getting back up, and stomping appears to do absolutely nothing while the enemy is getting back to their feet. If you trip them with a block counterattack and try to stomp, the stomp appears to do nothing. Like, it doesn't appear to connect with the enemy, it makes the sound of Jacob stomping the floor and not a body, and the enemy doesn't react.

There is actually a third option but it's even more situational and therefore useless: fire a kinesis projectile at their legs and then try stomping on them. But by the time you've done this they're probably already mutating.

I just want to compare notes with other players on this, I have literally never managed to do this, or at the very least if I have, the game hasn't properly communicated that I succeeded. It's like the only way to "stop" a mutation is just install the enemy with a tentacle shot. Can anyone else shed light on this?

I'm gonna do a second run now and try to do more testing, it's bugging me that the tutorial says this and I have no idea what it means

Simple, enemies with tentacles lying on the floor ("dead") can get up again if not stomped on and mutate again. I've seen this a few times.

I ran into a couple enemies that "Fake" their death. You can either stomp or shoot the bodies on the ground in about 5 seconds. Otherwise the corpse gets up and mutates.
