Is it ok just to upgrade GPR and the baton?

I have put one upgrade into extra pistol ammunition.

What would you recommend?

GPR and baton are the most used stuff in this game by far. So a definite yes. But you don’t have to upgrade all, at least I didn’t. Baton you don’t need the middle blocking strats if you prefer dodging like me. GPR you don’t really need the max tiers for all, I would save the $$$ to up 2 guns to max of my choice instead.

Yes. Baton you only upgrade the damage and pierce upgrades. Do not get the block upgrades, you still get damaged blocking and is useless for bosses.

GRP is actually your primary weapon since you can insta-kill most mobs if there are environmental hazards. For GRP upgrade only strength and max charges to the max. Recharge is optional. If you dont upgrade recharge, just stand around and wait for it to recharge after each engagement, or use the battery if you have them.

Personally for guns, just get the starter pistol (useful from start to endgame) and riot shotgun. You won't have enough credits to upgrade everything, and unlocking more guns means you get more random ammo. So just handcannon and riotshotgun so you dont clutter your inventory with ammo from non-upgraded guns.

the dmg upgrade for pistol is pretty good. baton dmg and the upgrade that lets you continue your combo even if it gets blocked as it chops the limb off is a must imo. after that you're pretty much settled

i also upped the pistol and shotgun until i got the dmg upgrade and just went to fully upgrade baton and grp like you. worked pretty well for me

Upgrade what you prefer, the GPR is really powerful so charging time and batteries should be your priority.

In the other side the batton can be one hell of a combo dealer if you grab the upgrade that breaks enemies arms when they try to block

I would recommend you to upgrade your firearms too tho, mostly because theres a few enemies that require you to shoot at them, besides you never know when you might go low health and need to use firearms.

You need to upgrade your shotguns. That proved to be essential later in the game. Yea, your regular average enemies can be handled with baton and GRP, but...
Bardiche Dec 12, 2022 @ 5:38pm
the shotguns are not essential at all in the game; all you need is the GRP and 1 other gun; in fact if you do not even fabricate any other guns; the game will only drop you ammo for the guns you have access to which deterministically allows you to get the ammo type you actually want. I finished the hardest difficulty with maxed GRP, dmg upgrade on initial pistol and the machine gun with dmg upgrade.

Well, I used my Riot Gun to death, but yes, stick to two guns basically (Pistol + a bigger gun) and upgrade them all the way.

And also, I guess the number of shots required to make 'big enemies' stumble is the same when you use pistols?

Great game btw.

I am not I sure I think its based on dmg dealt, the starting pistol has the highest dmg per shot so if you can hit your shots the trade-off is great. I am pretty sure it is possible to finish the game with just the GRP and the Pistol alone, but one other big guns are fun, the machine gun is good because you can carry a lot more ammo per slot. By the final boss I had entire inventory of machine gun ammo boxes because i had more then enough money saved over to splurge all of it on bullets. This also made the final boss trivial because you can just kite and spray away.

I really don't see why GRP is useful unless there are environmental hazzards to throw enemies into. Otherwise I literally never use it. Am I doing it wrong? Can anyone tell me another use case for it?

You don't have to use the GRP only when you see spikes and other "environmental" things.
You can use it to throw ennemies in the space. (There are many areas where you can throw them off any platform).

Also, when you upgrade it, you can literaly break'em into pieces just by throwing them on a simple wall.
The GRP is not a fire weapon but don't be mistaken, this is the best weapon, not to underestimate.
When upgraded to max, you don't even need charges as it reloads rapidly.
Only the two-headed ennemy needs a fireweapon, all the others >> GRPfest

I finished the game in hard mode with full GRP, full baton (unless the blocking section) and full skunk gun = At the end I felt like the doom slayer, as if I became the horror and all ennemies run away from me.

GRP is quite literally the essential speedrunning tool. in addition to slamming enemies into each other for damage, you can also toss them away from you to create space, pull them in Scorpion-style so you always get the first hit, drop mobs into bottomless pits, and with upgrades starts you on a near infinite resources economy when you can a) recharge it for free, and b) use said free ammo to slam all enemies into spiked walls for 100% loot drops

Great points. I started using it as you describe - creating space, throwing enemies into one another. Actually works quite well even when there is no environmental hazzards around to throw enemies into. Thanks.
