Ignore every answer in this thread except the one who said remove GPU OC. Yes this includes the OC the card comes with. Go to MSI Afterburner and drop your core clocks by 25 MHz. You wont notice any difference, but it should fix your GPU hanging.

This error is because your GPU clockspeeds are not stable. Sometimes you can play 99 games with no issues and boom that one game just somehow taxes your card in a way to make it unstable. Happened to me with Control, I was tearing my hairs out trying to figure out the issue since literally nothing worked. I hadnt even OC'd my card.

I didnt get an error msg just a straight crash-to-desktop. Had to look into event viewer and there I found the same error message, "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG".

TLDR; Drop your GPU clock speed by about 25 MHz, If it doesnt help, drop another 25MHz.

According to the DirectX Programming guide DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG indicates:

The graphics driver stopped responding because of an invalid combination of graphics commands sent by the app. If you get this error repeatedly, it is a likely indication that your app caused the device to hang and needs to be debugged. (1)

I tried playing it with RT on (30fps locked) and also was getting the crashes with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error message.

I've had it happen in several UE4 games like FnaF: Security Breach.. always when overdoing it with the raytracing/gfx settings and causing vram spikes or leaks, and the hung error.

People tend to overreact and jump to GPU problems or "needing to underclock" to fix it, which isn't true. Applying sane settings usually solves it.

My GPU is factory OC and I never got this type of crash, in any of my games.
Callisto did crash once in an elevator though, I had a window opened to send the crash report.
