It's a prison. You want to know how close the inmates are to dying while you're holding them down and beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of them.

Health bar on the neck makes complete and total sense.

You're right, there's nothing more immersive than a blood filled thermometer floating in the sky in the upper right corner of the screen environment

If you listen to the podcast they're using as promo material, people associated with UJC, or at least who work in the vicinity of our setting, have permanent spinal taps with bio-monitors and an injection system. This explains both the health meter [which can be explained as measuring heart-rate, blood pressure, adrenals, and all the other things related to potential death or injury, and display those levels in simplistic format for ease of reading], and the likely implementation of health-kits you just pump into your system to stabilize your vitals, like we see in Dead Space.

Whether we'd be likely to use such tech in real life when we get around to space colonies, no way to tell that in current era. What really matters is the in-universe explanation and whether you're capable of suspending your disbelief for the sake of enjoying the product as it is provided. From a lore perspective, it makes sense for prisoners to have the spinal taps forcibly installed, both from a monitoring and tracking perspective, and a "beatings not killing the subject" perspective in the event of corruption. This isn't a proper government prison with all our current rules, but is a brutal space-age prison managed by people who experiment on humans and ignore basic concepts of humane treatment for the detained. Wouldn't be bizarre to see these things installed.

I'm pretty excited for the game, so perhaps that's making it easier for me to see this as believable, but if it wasn't at least *conceivable* for them to have implemented in-universe, I might have agreed with your "health meter weird" idea.

It's a video game not real life it doesn't have to make sense. If you don't like go play something else. Sheesh.

I agree, only because mine floats in the corner of my screen.

How will the character know his own health if his healthbar is on his neck?

Like how Isaac knows what his health is since his healthbar is on his back?
Makes perfect sense. If you have half a neck then you're at half health. If you have no neck then you're dead, because the guillotine just decapitated you.
