Game does not start
I click the play button. Steam says that it's running and opens a window that says preparing to launch Patron. Then... nothing happens and it stops running. I checked the install folder and it doesn't even generate any log files.

Hello! What's hppening to you sounds very much like few issues that people had, and root cause was defecive or incomplete directX11 installation (ina many cases VS2015 redist can be missing). Steam should install all these components prior to first game launch, but it sometimes doesn't gets done completely.

In short, your game process probably remains "hanging" in windows task manager and thus steam believes game is actually running. Please do these things:

1. press CTRL + ALT + DEL , then go to task manager and see under active processes if Patron is maybe running. If it does, shut it down before attempting to start it again

2. Please install directX libraries fresh. You can find it on this link: https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x64.exe

Entire directX libraries are here, if needed:
https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x64.exe
https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x86.exe

3. If none of the above does the trick, then please send us your dxdiag.txt (report generated by running "dxdiag.exe" from windows command line), and your PatronLauncherLog.txt (located in main game installation folder, same folder where main log file would be located if the game actually loaded). You can send it to support@patronthegame.com

Hope it helps!

Hi, I dont think this is a directx11 problem, I've played a large variety of different games lately and if my directx installation was corrupt or incomplete wouldn't they also be affected?

1) Patron does not have an active process and does not even start one when I click play game. Not one that appears in the task manager anyway. Steam stops reporting the game as running within a second or two of pressing play, it doesn't hang around.

2) That file says visual c++ not directx? I tried repair anyway, and then uninstall and reinstall. Hasn't had any effect.

3) As I said in the post, no log files are generated when I tried and play the game so I dont have any to send unfortunately.

OK I think there's some real problems you've got with the way you're trying to launch the game but maybe not the game itself. Since I was in the local files anyway I thought why not just try running the .exe files;

First i tried the GameLauncher_WIN7 and it did run. The launcher came up and i could interact with the options, dlc, mods etc. but when I clicked play it immediately crashed and gave me an error message "The procedure entry point CreateFile2 could not be located in dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"

So after that I just skipped the launcher and used the Patron_WIN7.exe and it worked fine I think. I was able to get into the actual game and start playing.

I went back and looked at the store page and saw that Windows 7 is not included in the specs so I guess not officially supported? That's a shame but explains I think why its not launching properly. So I think its probably best if i return the game for a refund then in case some update prevents the Windows 7 exes in future.

That's interesting. If you are using Windows 7, that might be part of the issue. Game natively doesn't support Win7, but we've made a specific Win7 executable to try making it work on (at least some) Win7 platforms.

If you're not actually using Win 7, then this workaround would be really weird thing. Not to say I'm not happy you've found a way to make it work, I honestly am!

It's true, official support is hard to offer since Microsoft doesn't support Win7 themselves. It can potentially create a lot of problems to us. That said, most people that succeeded to run the game on Win 7 didn't have problems later on.

Whatever you decide, we're with you, and we'll not hide the potential risks since we don't know them ourselves...

Yes I'm a Windows 7 holdout, so I think its really cool that you've got a version there for it but I don't know if that'll be maintained as the game continues to be maintained and updated in future. Thanks for your time today though!
