In short, your game process probably remains "hanging" in windows task manager and thus steam believes game is actually running. Please do these things:
1. press CTRL + ALT + DEL , then go to task manager and see under active processes if Patron is maybe running. If it does, shut it down before attempting to start it again
2. Please install directX libraries fresh. You can find it on this link: https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x64.exe
Entire directX libraries are here, if needed:
https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x64.exe
https://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x86.exe
3. If none of the above does the trick, then please send us your dxdiag.txt (report generated by running "dxdiag.exe" from windows command line), and your PatronLauncherLog.txt (located in main game installation folder, same folder where main log file would be located if the game actually loaded). You can send it to support@patronthegame.com
Hope it helps!
1) Patron does not have an active process and does not even start one when I click play game. Not one that appears in the task manager anyway. Steam stops reporting the game as running within a second or two of pressing play, it doesn't hang around.
2) That file says visual c++ not directx? I tried repair anyway, and then uninstall and reinstall. Hasn't had any effect.
3) As I said in the post, no log files are generated when I tried and play the game so I dont have any to send unfortunately.
First i tried the GameLauncher_WIN7 and it did run. The launcher came up and i could interact with the options, dlc, mods etc. but when I clicked play it immediately crashed and gave me an error message "The procedure entry point CreateFile2 could not be located in dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"
So after that I just skipped the launcher and used the Patron_WIN7.exe and it worked fine I think. I was able to get into the actual game and start playing.
If you're not actually using Win 7, then this workaround would be really weird thing. Not to say I'm not happy you've found a way to make it work, I honestly am!
