Food and Crop Allocation
Hello

I am getting gradually more and more frustrated by how food and crops are allocated. I regularly run out of wheat and Oats as people eat them as opposed to the plethora of other foodstuffs available to them meaning my animals, brewery and windmills have no raw materials. I have never in the real world eaten wheat raw, and imagine most haven't. Is it possible to limit how much you have in stock before it used for food as opposed to produce other products.

Had the same issue with Apples, Grapes and Plums as well. It is annoying when you have a ton of meats and vegetables for them - like 15k food in stock and they always take the raw mats for other stuff first.

For wheat, apples, grapes, and plums, you can lock them so people don't take them. Go onto the warehouse screen, on the right it has the area to set a max limit, just to the right of that is a little pad lock. Click that.

Oats however can't be locked :( I know I hate when they eat all my animals food. Only reason I grow oats really.

Edit to add you can also lock other things like flour, sunflowers, oil ect. Anything that could be used in production.

I have a different issue: I had 9,000+ oats in my warehouses, but people ran out of food!

As far as I'm aware, oats is a vegetable, so how did they run out of food when I have 9,000 oats available?

I found this strange because those bastards would always eat my oats I wanted for my animals. Anyway, I went into a old save, for science!

What I found is you are right. Somewhere along the line, last patch maybe? Oats is no longer being counted as food.

I had a total of 11,914 oats I grew to test, that were in the warehouse.

My food amount was listed at 9,726 ( this is just what I had left in inventory they hadn't eaten yet)

kept my eye on oats and they were not being touched. Built a ranch temporarily to see if they would still be used for animal food ( they were), destroyed ranch.

Villagers ate the 9,726 of food after a couple years.

I was left with 22,997 oats, and people starved and started dying.

I don't think this was intentional, as I don't remember reading anything about it in the patch notes. Though this is a good bug to me, stop eating my oats!!! I can see how this would be a issue though considering your people starved, and they are still listed as a food.

Oats aren't even a vegetable, they are classed as a cereal since they are a species of grass.

What I actually want is not a simple lock for foodstuffs that are used for production. I often have the issue where I have A LOT of production food, I unlock it and then all the peeps do is eat that ending production - Apples, Cherries and Grapevines are the worst for this.

What we need is a number based system whereby you can you can set how much of a certain item (including Flowers, Firewood, Candles etc.) in stock you have before your pop starting using it. Also, stop your pop eating raw wheat since who has eaten raw wheat since the invention of bread - or flour, since who eats raw flour?

Also, since most of us only grow Oats for Animals, why not allow animals to eat other foodstuffs - specifically wheat?

Edit: Same issue with food, I have 25k food in stock, including a lot of stuff that is NOT locked (and the wording on the lock implies if no alternative is available, they'll use it). One house claims to be short on both food and heating - have 3k of firewood and Coal each.

Oats and wheat are both listed as vegetable in game. I would classify them as grains, weird but, meh. That is of little concern to me. I know what they are.

Ya I do the same thing. If I have a large stockpile of the goods I locked, I will just unlock it and let people have at it for a little while. Then just lock it back up. I don't do it enough to be a bother so.

LOL these people will eat anything, except for apparently oats now. At one point they were eating wax before they fixed it lol.

Guess they could, but really if my production AND animals needed wheat, I would forever be growing many fields of wheat. That could be worse then people eating it lol.

Odd, someone on here somewhere said they were finding large amounts of stuff in the houses, but it was still being counted by the warehouses. I have not had this problem, so I can't really say.

The assumption is the citizens are cooking with most of those ingredients, not just eating them raw; it's not like they are also cracking open a fresh crab and eating it raw. Porridge and gruel would have been a staple in Medieval times, and while less popular is still eaten today.

Why do you say that? other than peeps taking wheat and/or flour have had no issue with windmill/bakery combo.

I think they mean that the amount of resources and people needed, isn't worth the amount of bread you get. That is one of the things they are gonna re balance, because you actually take a loss making it.

"I have never in the real world eaten wheat raw"

Neither are your people. They are grinding the wheat at home into flour to then bake into bread.
