As for horse-drawn carriages, eGRVTS has those. There is a ship set called Sailing Ships. As for trains, quite a bunch of sets have early trains, but as I've never played pre-1950, I do not have any good recommendations. Hopefully the others will fill in :)

It's been several years since I last explored the NewGRF list, so there's probably more options now, but I found the NUTS trainset to be fun for its gameplay. :D Start at 1900. Shame there aren't more sets like it.

For something less crazy and more based on the real world, The UK Renewal Set 2 is quite good IMO, with trains available from as early as 1830 - But you'll need to run it alongside other NewGRFs which add maglevs and monorails if you want to play beyond 2017. Other sets also have this problem.

I prefer to play with the default Monorail and Maglevs for the sake of gameplay - Most NewGRFs I've found only have Monolevs that transport passengers, not all cargoes, so you can re-enable the default ones by using the "Old Wagons with New Cargos 1.1" NewGRF. This also re-enables the default normal rail vehicles too, which at least don't conflict with UKRS2, so you can use them alongside the mod, or simply ignore them.

E: Actually, are there any other NewGRFs out there which can re-enable the default vehicles to use alongside mods? Preferably one with preferences where you can toggle specific vehicles on or off.

Good mods to start at 1700 or 1800
Hey...
I want to start in 1700 or 1800 (or any other earlier start... 1850). Are there any good mods to start at this times?

Have a look at this thread, there are some good suggestions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/openttd/comments/gnwkod/what_are_the_newgrf_combo_to_play_on_1700/frcazng/

I edit the my thread question. I added the same questions for future mods. Are there also some mods?

As people consistently asked me to include early start features, all of my sets have some unique features for early games:

- Timberwolf's Trains has horse wagons from 1700 and a bunch of early locos from the beginning of steam.
- Timberwolf's Tracks has plateway rails for early rail systems
- Timberwolf's UK Road Vehicles 3 starts out with horse wagons in 1700 and has several 1800s steam vehicles and trams
- Timberwolf's Roads has dirt tracks and cobblestones for early starts, meaning towns will have a mix of cobbles, setts and then modern roads as they grow
- Timberwolf's Stations features progression from early wooden platforms to basic buildings, then station halls and canopies

Horse and Buggy mod name? And "Must Have" mods for pre-1925 games?
I just downloaded this game a few days ago, and while it was confusing at first, I've managed to watch a few tutorials on Youtube to learn how to play. One thing has me confused, though.

Where can I find the horse and buggy vehicle that is shown in the store video? I know there are a bunch of different vehicle mods for this game, but I have no idea what are some "must have" vehicle packs for games that are earlier than 1925. Would anybody have some good recommendations? I'm lost in the in game mod menu. They all sound pretty cool from the descriptions,, but I don't know where to start. lol

I also tried starting a game in 1925, hoping that there would be a vanilla horse and buggy road transport options because I like to watch the evolution of technology. Sadly, it appears that only trains are available.

Here, this should be useful. It's licensed under GPLv2, so if anyone reads this then the source code has also been included. Full credits to Zephyris. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XYzwons4JosFanK565mYCcG0efsZ7dZx/view?usp=sharing

Some sets that start you out with animals:

Timberwolf's UK Road Vehicles
PolRoads
eGRVTS 2 (road set)
600mm Narrow Gauge (train set)

Overall, there are not really "must have" sets. Each one has their own interesting features, and most of them can be used together in the same game.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply! I'll definitely check those out!

You can also try playing with variations of this list I'm putting together, though it's a bit of mix and match and definitely not comprehensive:
