I made cute lil cars while my engineering boyfriend and our good buddy built the most complex suspensions and robots known to man. When they weren't making cool rockets that could transport oranges through the vacuum of space, we were latching ourselves to trains or losing our minds to the mania that possessed us. Absolutely, entirely recommend this game. Fantastic experience, banger soundtrack, quaint and charming graphics, pretty digestible building and painting system. Genuine 10/10.

Tremendously sadistic. I'm pretty sure actually building and operating a Mars rover is legitimately easier. Hellscape terrain, trickle of inadequate parts, and absolutely the most nightmarish, dumb-quirky tasks imaginable. Devs adore round and slippery objects, under-fund the player without a ton of grinding, and friction on these items even with dedicated grasping tools (claws, clamps) is a joke. The problem is that every single point of articulation "wiggles" uncontrollably when in motion, which rapidly loses grasp on things, for which you are punished with your time wasted sometimes by the hour.

Separately, the art style is incredibly adorable- except that it hides terrain from you. I really want to love the art and do for every other purpose, but random woobies in the dirt that throw you sideways being literally, actually invisible because of the shader choice...no, no no no.

However, the execution is top notch, it seems very stable, and other than the intent-of-gameplay complaints, it's solid. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's so obnoxious to chase a beachball a thousand miles because it slipped out of your "claws"

A really cool game wrecked by an absurd terrain generator.

The game uses random terrain generation for the map and missions in the game (what you actually do with the vehicles you make) are simply two points chosen on said map for the pickup and dropoff locations.

The issue is that the map frequently has massive sections of impassible terrain considering the fragile nature of some of the items you transport; or in many cases are completely impassible with any ground vehicle you could conceivably build given the maximum size limitations.

There is a terrain height map with a waypoint system that would theoretically allow you to plan a route that avoids bad terrain; and this could actually be a good mechanic to add to the game. However the map has nowhere near enough fidelity to see the random 1 meter high walls or other random terrain glitches that will completely wreck your planned route. Terrain that consists of repeated 1 meter canyons and ridges will show as competely flat on the map.

Now the game does allow you to abandon missions without penalty; but it's endless frustrating to get several kilometers into a trip only to find some section of terrain that you can't possibly traverse.

This screenshot I think really shows the terrain generator at its worst. The drop off location is located in a little bowl on top of that mountain; the terrain is actually worse on the other side of the mountain.
