Game won't start

There is no other program active on my laptop. It's still a very new laptop and when I try to start the game I get the screen with the code I need, but then nothing happens and the play button turns green again. The game is not started. So I can't play it. I have tried to start it over and over agai, but nothing happens... I have bought this game some years ago, but actually never played it. Now I wanted to play it, but it won't work...

Doesn't change anything. My pc is perfectly up to date and all other games work smoothly. It's just this game that does not start.

I have same problem with windows 11 pro installed but could not play it on windows 10 or 8.1 either or windows 8 for that matter same problem there to . This problem has been long lasting . I contacted steam they told me to contact Ubisoft game fabricators and I never got an answer . Steam never re embursed me for buying the game bcuz I had played 69. 8 hours of the game & steam said they don't support game problems , we must contact game producers in this case Ubisoft did that they just said to contact steam it's a run arround game between Ubisoft & steam that's all it is .. . All I can understand is we got scammed into buying a dead game that does not work . Even with my cd key . I had the game on cd b4 always write my cd keys in writing pad to so when I bought heritage of kings from steam it gave me a new key but it dont work either clic play and nothing just returns to start game .

I contacted Ubisoft in november 2022, I got a short reaction, provided some screenshots and they never answered. Now all of a sudden I got an answer, we're april 2023. I had to provide new screenshots, so I'm hopefull this will finally get resolved!

Interesting....I recently bought "Asus Tuf Gaming" laptop, will see if i can play it as i never had any problems running it on my win 8.1 before, let's see if it works on new laptop. Usually it's the PC's problem as they always running into problems into launching old games. Will post an update on this later

Update: Yep, as expected...it's not working, it says "Game Starting" then that window goes off and nothing happens. I believe my current PC is unable to launch it

Update2: Might as well all check if their "Legacy Components" are switched on, because you can't play outdated games on new pc's without it, although mine IS ON, i still can't play this game.

This is similar problem on my good old Praetorians, game launches but when i hit ESC to skip intro, it lags for a sec and kicks me out of the game, HD remaster works fine, but not it's old version of that game.

It has to be the problem with new pc's running old games, NOT the game itself.

I do not even get to that window. After I press "play" it says "launching" for about one second, then the game stopps.
