Loved the RPG vibe, those were my first RPG-style games and i even replayed them several time during the years. In 2020 I could finished both of them at 100% and was great.
I know the 1 is superior and the most original, but those 2 have a special place in my heart too.

Digimon World 2003, not 3.
3 is the us version that has less stuff, where the game ends after defeating the last boss, and you can only reload the game save file before the boss fight.

2003 is the eu version and continues on and you have more stuff to do. It is based on the jpn version of the game, the latter coming 1 month after the us release.

DW3
Neutral
  • The game ends after beating the final boss Galacticmon.
  • The ambush Digimon encounter rate is low.
  • Life bar movement when losing health is the same for the opponent and the player.
  • Minotarumon and Minotarumon (pale blue) when defeated fall down "backwards" into a kneeling position.
  • When a battle starts, there is NO pre- focus animation to Digimon fighters.
Positive
  • Counter Crest has 100% rate of working.
  • You can fish unlimited times without having to leave the area.
  • You can do MORE than 9999 damage per turn.
Negative
  • The critical rate, drop item and effects of the techniques generally are low.
  • BK MegaGargomon gives 450 EXP and 900 BIT.
  • Kumamon (Bearmon) design in the Gym, who trains the player Digimon, doesn't have a blue stripe and they look the same as other rookies you control in the game.
  • While fishing and when you hit the yellow bar, it won't produce a sound that tells a there's a confrontation with a water Cardmon.
  • Some Digimon that can only be fought at a specific time in the game.
  • Slightly more text errors.
DW2003
Neutral
  • The final boss is Kurt in the World Tournament.
  • The ambush Digimon encounter rate is quite high.
  • Life bar movement when losing health is different for the opponent (right to left) and the player.
  • Minotarumon and Minotarumon (pale blue) when defeated fall down forwards with arms extended.

Positive
  • The game continues even after beating Galacticmon and no change in AM Server.
  • BK MegaGargomon gives 650 EXP and BIT 1300.

"Well it's not 100% the same since DW2003 still uses the same music as DW3 in the opening and credits whereas the japanese version plays "Miracle Maker" at those points... so it's more like 99% the same (minus the language of course).
A few elaborations on the post Galacticmon gameplay, there aren't really any new maps or Digimon for that part, the fixed amaterasu server uses the color palette and soundtrack of the Asuka server but still has the amaterasu random encounters. I think the central and east sectors are the only accessible levels, the rest are blocked off. The quests are pretty much a continuation of the original in-universe gameplay plot before the A.o.A. derailed everything during the main story, so your goal is to defeat the city leaders again (except they are not in their cities this time since most of them aren't accessible) and finally challenge the game master in the arena (the arena reception in the admin center couldn't be used throughout the main story).
There are no Digimon or card exclusive to the post game, although I think there are new high level tamer and card battles to be fought with the NPCs that are exclusive to the new Amaterasu server."

Hot Take: trying to make a trilogy out of 3 games that have no connection or similarities besides the brand name is not helping.

Bundling the games together costs more money, but it barely adds to the value proposition since people who liked one are fairly likely to not like the others so much.

They should just make it open source and the community can do the rest.

The latter will never happen. It's a franchise lel.
Most likely scenario is that you will get all 3 games as remasters, doesn't matter if they're related story wise or gameplay wise. 2003 name also exists because those regions never got the 2nd game, without importing, at least it makes it easier to know that is the superior game.

Umm even though I know I can just emulate them...if they came to Steam I'd still buy them because those games are awesome plus free cloud saves would be helpful.

Yep, mostly because of this and the fact you can have it on your account without downloading/saving anything would be great

100% agree, Digimon world 1 was the best! I'd pay hands down full price for it and the rest.
JayDee Phoenix Dec 24, 2022 @ 9:20pm
I dunno ports are normally bad. You can play them on a emulator anyways with more functionality and less cost.

A remake would be nice if they don't screw it up but unlikely lol.

I'd buy a remaster collection or just 1 remaster. I hated how World became like Saints Row with each sequel it was too different from the last. Why even call it World then. Be like Sleuth and Survive name it something else if it ain't the same style of game.

I can see it happening in a future if this port makes some profits.
But it will require some effort to make good ports of older games, the quality of the localization in DW 1 was pretty bad and there were a bunch of bugs.
DW 3 may need some quality of life improvements like disable random battles, an NPC or a menu that tells you (or just give hints) on what you should do next, etc.
I didn't played much DW 2 because I didn't liked dungeon crawlers at the time but it probably also needs some adjustments to make it more playable to everyone.
And well, there is DW 4, that one isn't worth the resources for a port xD.
I would be happy with just ports of DW 1 & DW Decode.

To add what makes those games enjoyable, DMW3 just had a great atmosphere and in my opinion the best overall soundtrack of the three games. Also, the plot had a great premise that predates the MMO cliches of today.

DMW2, while admittedly is harder to justify, definitely had its charms. For me, it was the excitement of exploring all the different Digimon you can get. It was always exciting for me to get my Digimon to the digivolution milestone and see what new Digimon I would get. The plot actually gets pretty neat in this game, but you don't get to experience when it gets interesting until late into the game. Most people definitely drop it way before that, so people never seem to appreciate that aspect of it.
