Cannot start game: "Entry Point Not Found"
So I recently downloaded Ghost Recon and the expansion packs (Island Thunder and Desert Storm), but I cannot get the game to open. When I go to run it, I get an error that says:

Ghost Recon: GhostRecon.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point MiniDumpWriteDump could not be located in the dynamic link library dbghelp.dll.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, installing in a different directory, running as Administrator, and all of the other fixes I've seen on these forums, but nothing seems to work. The game just fails to load. What does this error mean? How can I fix it?

Thanks.

Go to the install folder. Mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ghost Recon. Rename dbghelp.dll to dbghelp_old.dll. Worked for me.

Hey,

Glad to hear that's worked for you too. I've highlighted the answer on the post for others as it seems to be working.

Okay, so I installed this from my CD-ROM that I've had for literal decades now and tried every trick in the book to get this game running on Windows 10. I played it on my old computer (which was Win7) and it worked fine, but nothing I tried is getting it to run on my new Win10 PC.

Tried renaming/deleting the dbghelp.dll file
Tried running in Compatibility mode as Admin
Tried running with Fullscreen Optimisations disabled
Tried every combination of the above, including running in lower resolutions, and nothing seems to work.

Hey Xanatos, thanks for reaching out about this.

Can you explain for us what happens when you try to launch Ghost Recon? Is it this same "Entry Point Not Found" error reported by other players? If not, what happens instead?

Thanks for listing the troubleshooting steps you've already tried. Can you make sure to check the general troubleshooting guide[ubi.li] as well? In particular from the guide, please make sure you've verified the game files, you've got your graphics drivers and Windows install fully updated, and you don't have any background programs which could interfere with the game (like system or graphics optimisers, mods, cheating engines, and so on).

If it still doesn't work, I'd recommend our system files support article[ubi.li], which describes a couple of helpful files we can use to diagnose the issue. We can't do that here on the forum, though, so once you've got those two files generated, please reach out to the team at the links below to send them across to us.

Send Ubisoft Support a direct message on Twitter[ubi.li]

In your message to the support teams, remember to explain what happens when you launch the game, and which steps you've already tried - that'll help the agent responding to give more specific advice. Thanks :)

Let me know if you've any questions about these steps :steamhappy:

Sorry for the stupid question I'm going to ask, but between choosing Windows XP's SP2 or SP3 compatibility mode for this Ghost Recon, which one is better? Or whatever?

Hey RECEBA, The Puppet Bot,

Neither is better per say, but do give them both a try and see which works for you.

Let us know how you get on!

this nor none of the solutions in the thread have worked for me. tried renaming dbghelp, ran in different compatibility modes, checked drivers- nothing.
