Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

Playing Ghost recon from 2001 the original way and I need some help here.
Hello, my name is Andrew Schmitt. And I like retro gaming. And I like to place PC games how they are meant to be played originally.

I mean having Steam like preserve games is great and all but... I kinda like to play them how they were originally played. Like, play them on their original require operating systems.

I have an old Windows 98 with a Voodoo 3 card. And I was in for the feeling to play some Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon from 2001. I have the original CD. But there is one problem. When I try to play the game with a voodoo 3 card. The menu text looks blurry. I can't read what the menu text says. So I am looking online for a fix.

As those who remember there was a fix for it back when it was first released.

From here.

https://www.ghostrecon.net/html/faq-tech-gen.htm

And this fix was released by some under the name riptide.

There was a link to it it is either forbidden or removed because of this is now outdated data.

And these are files that I am trying to find because I can't play Ghost Recon on my Windows 98 PC because I don't have a Geforce 2.

So if you still have these files that were given out by riptide please send me a link to it. And tell how to insert the fix.

Thank you.

Personally I would log in at ghostrecon.net and ask Rocky(the site creator/admin) if he still has that fix backed up somewhere.. I remember downloading a few mods that had broken links or corrupted files and within 5 mins of messaging Rocky about the problems he would restore corrupt files or links. It's not a sure fix, but he may be able to help.

Far as I know, Ghost Recon runs the same on new hardware as it does old hardware, so there's not much reason (that I know of) to run it on old hardware. Supposedly the Steam version is buggier than the disc version though.

Yeah, I gathering that this guy is just a purist that actually likes to run old games on original hardware.. I can dig it, but unfortunately I can't help troubleshooting this problem much beyond what I've already put out there (if I had to take a wild guess I'd say it could also obsolete drivers, are there even DLLs for the Voodoo3 online anymore?) Edit: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/drivers-for-voodoo-3.html Just in case that is what you need.

In my experience the Steam version is perfectly stable on Windows 10 though and it honestly would be easier to take this route rather than troubleshoot ancient Technology like Windows 98 and the Voodoo 3.

I do like to run some games on older hardware, but I only do so if they don't run properly on new hardware. As far as Windows 98 though, that's more of pain then I'd be able to put up with. Fortunately, 95% of games from that era will run properly in 2000/XP or newer. Ghost Recon might even run worse on Win98. So I think I'd have to disagree with OP that running this game in 98 was the way it was intended. I think the target OS at the time was mainly ME/2000/XP. I don't really know though.
