Chef Happiness
So do I just have to keep firing them when they get too unhappy? Because increasing their salary so much is annoying.

They are the hardest to keep happy, unfortunately. Before you're making more money than you know what to do with, firing/rehiring is probably the best option. You will eventually want to level them up though, as having high level chefs help when you have a lot of customers.

I dunno. By the point you get to the level you don't care for money, you also don't care for their extra tips they get by leveling up.
Just get the speed to max and fire/hire when needed.

Staff happiness is split between pay AND workload. Look at how many chefs you have working vs how many tables they have to serve. if they are constantly moving and have almost no idle time between plates they get unhappy from overwork. gotta find that happy medium between tables and staff numbers. Sometimes splitting responsibilities and adjusting priorities helps. moderate and stable growth and expansion at first. once you unlock Hotel you don't really need to have all that many tables and bars. Hotel payout is way higher and much cheaper to maintain.

edit: except for researchers, i never have staff issues from unhappiness. all my staff is 97-100%.

I suggest giving them proper priorities. If their stat is high on main dish, put it on priority. Let them stop working on the dish they have the lowest stat. I have happy chefs.
The only workers I can't maintain to be happy are my researchers. ( X_X)

I found if you specialize the chefs i.e. one is the main course chef, one is the soup chef and one the desert chef they stay much happier. And that goes for adding a second kitchen as well, I got the elite chef and tried to start a second kitchen with just him and he soon got sad until I added two other chefs and had him specialize in one area while the other two specialized in the other areas.

great insight folks, thanks! I was just catching wind of my first red bars. Popped in an additional wait staff and caught back up. But I see that the cook staff will soon be getting overworked. I will need to fiddle with priorities as well. Unadjusted so far.
