demo - how long is it? different than full game?

i just played half an hour of the demo until i realized this is from the makers of how to survive, and i went straight to buying it.
Then i realized, its still more than 2 weeks until the full game releases - and now i m hooked :D

Is the demo more of a preview, or is it time limited, or does it feature content from the main game?
If i am gonna play the full game anyway, should i skip the demo?

The demo consists of the beginning of the game and ends at a certain quest.

I downloaded the demo and when you click play in Steam it acts like its going to load and then stops and the play button turns green again and no game pops up. What am I doing wrong, or whats going on?

Depending on how you play, it could take about 1 - 2 hours. I take things slower than most with about an hour into it. I assume I have about a half-hour to go judging by some vids I saw.

Not going to spoil anything for you, but you'll know when the demo has ended.
