CD key not working?

I have had Heroes Of Might and Magic V for a while now and thought, what the heck, lets bind it to Steam. But I can't for some reason. It says the CD-key is invalid? I have it here on my Manual. It IS the right CD-Key and I HAVE put it in correctly. Whats wrong? Is it too old? Do I have to contact Ubisoft to get a new one?

Anyone have any ideas?

Only a select list of games can be registered on steam by using its CD-key: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601 . No version of HoMM is on that list.

Thnx for the help. Strange that you can buy HoMM on Steam then? Perhaps it'll come later on?

I think it's a special deal the game developers have to make with Valve to allow binding non-Steam bought products to Steam. After all, it creates extra stress on the Steam servers without any extra revenue for Valve (since the game was bought outside of Steam). So don't expect HoMM to be added to the list. If you want it on Steam, you'll have to buy it on Steam or any other location that expressly delivers a Steam key.
