Initiative is what determines how often a unit gets a turn. High morale gives a bonus to initiative which recalcs when the unit gets to go when High morale triggers. Haste and Benediction also give bonus to initiative which shortens the time between the units turns. Low morale can cause a unit to lose a turn and have to wait for it's next turn. If you are fighting a high initiative unit then you want to slow them so they don't go as often. If you are fighting a low initiative unit you want to cause low morale or confusion so they might lose what few turns they get.
