I can't change race in a custom game

Unfortunatley no, I am currently having the same issue its driving me nuts!

its because the initial maps that are shown for your custom games are all scenarios so u r likely forced into a race for that scenario. remember that taking over towns will allow you to begin constructing units from others as well and possibly recruiting their heroes? its been a while since ive plaved and im just starting again.

but there is a check box above the scenario maps allowing you to select other maps that are available for multiplayer and after clicking your create game option it should allow you to select your starting town.
